Value and Satisfied Experience
by HungryPittsburghMan
This place has a good bar along with ample seating. The menu offers traditional American mixed with some specials like Mahi Mahi and Seared Tuna. Meunu prices equal are a good value. Steak, salad, sweet potato for $24. Cooked to perfection. Street parking only but probably the best value American food menu in Shadyside.
- Pros: Tasty food at Competitive Prices
- Cons: Street Parking. Sometimes gets really busy at peak times and weekends.
Great Wine Selection!!!! Huge Pour.

The Elbow Room has a great wine selection by the glass and serves a huge pour. Probably 20 - 25 choices by the glass. Service is super friendly and they have a great outdoor patio.

nice patio
by corey78
Nice, cozy outdoor patio Mixed drinks were weak, and the fried calamari greasy - oil in the fryer likely wasn't hot enough. Love the ambiance though. Next time I'll sit inside. Head's up - they allow smoking inside so if you're sensitive may not be the best place.
American fare and plenty of fun food keep everyone happy.

In Short
The Elbow Room has created a family-style pub that attracts a somewhat more upscale Shadyside crowd with its outdoor seating, drink specials and exotic menu. Instead of traditional burgers, clubs and standard entrees, the kitchen serves specialty salads and sandwiches like the grilled eggplant, spicy chicken salad and Muenster tuna melt. There's also a kids' menu replete with skinless hot dogs, penne with marinara or butter and more.
Best Burger and Patio in the Burgh
by pghdininggirl
I recently discovered The Elbow Room this past summer and have visited several times since. It easily has the best burger in Pittsburgh--thick and juicy, but not at all greasy--served with "Potato Patch" style French fries. Their chocolate cheesecake was probably the richest and best dessert Ive ever had. The outdoor patio in the rear is very quaint and romantic and possesses a European feel. It is perfect for dinner with your date or drinks with the friends. I was shocked to read other reviews touting The Elbow Room as kid friendly as I never encountered anything but a relaxed, young professional-type atmosphere the evenings I dined here. A new favorite and highly recommended.
- Pros: Delicious, Affordable, Romantic

Consistently Good!

I've been going to the Elbow Room for 15 years or so and the food and service have always been great. It's casual, inexpensive and really, really good. They also have a great courtyard for eating outside without feeling like you're in the middle of a city street.
Jostling elbows for decades!

I remember seeing one of the first shows of a new band, Rusted Root, here. For years the Elbow Room has offered great selections of everything from jazz to rock, as well as an enticing menu and a wonderful bar.
