If you are looking for a throw-back mom and pop pizza shop with a modern touch, great food and even better service, you need to try Caruso's. The guys, including the owner Mike, are the nicest conversational guys you'll meet, and I have not had a pizza, calzone, or a hoagie anywhere that matches it. Best place hands down. For me, Caruso's is the ideal of Pittsburgh's concept of good food and friendly service.

Pros: Everything

Cons: Tough to access as you have to park on the street and it is usually a busy street

Their pizza is great, both in terms of the crust and the toppings. We like it more than the bigger chains. it reminds me of the pizza I used to get from small neighborhood shops back in Brooklyn, NY.

Pros: Great food

Cons: You need to park on the street

Caruso's is a good place to stop for a couple of slices of better-than-average pie. Frank makes a pretty good NY-style thin crust, a bit airy, but not too much so. The sauce is a bit sweet and my only knock on Frank is that he want's to add extra cheese on everything - probably because so many Pittsburghers ask for extra cheese and don't bother tasting the good crust. The pizza is good. But the meat sauce is freaking amazing. Get a pint, a quart or a gallon next time you're in the neighborhood. Btw... regarding the reviewer below who's been to the "original Uno in Chicago"... what does having to do with eating pizza at Caruso's? Different animals completely. Not even in the same phylum.

Pros: Meat sauce. Quick service.

Cons: Have to be quick to stop Frank from adding extra cheese on everything.

I grew up eating this pizza and even though I don't live in Pittsburgh anymore, I always make it a point to go get a Caruso's "cut" when I get back to visit. As a matter of fact, I ate there twice during this last visit. The owners are great and the ambience is well, is just "Caruso's". You just can't beat the crust, sauce or cheese. And, if you aren't a pizza fan, try their other food. It's just as great!

Pros: the owners, the food, atmosphere

Cons: no parking

Hands down - the best pizza in town. If you haven't tried it yet - you are missing out. The ususual "best pizza" suspects can't TOUCH Caruso's - best sauce, best cheese, best crust - need I go on? Go try Pittsburgh's best pizza (in Mt. Lebanon) - not to mention all of the other great food they make - pasta, hoagies - it's all great. Enjoy.

If you haven't tasted Caruso's (Mt. Lebanon), then you are missing the best pizza I've ever had--and I've been to the original Uno's in Chicago, so I've had some pizza in my day! They make their pizza dough fresh every day, and it's homemade sauce, too. They take a real pride in the food they serve and in getting to know their customers. Anyone who doesn't love Caruso's may need to seek professional help! :)

Pros: Taste, Quality, Friendliness

Cons: , tough to find parking

Believe me, eating a CUT from Caruso's is an experience you should not go without. A perfect combination of crust, cheese, and homemade sauce makes this pizza my #1. This pie is made by the second generation of the Caruso family, but every now and then, if your lucky, you might get to experience a CUT from the original owner and first generation Caruso! Enjoy

Pros: Atmosphere, Quick, Inexpensive

Cons: , none, none
