this place does not beat fat heads in the south side as far as burgers are concerned. fat head still serves the tastiest burgers in town!

The best burger I've ever had

Period. One of the few places in Pittsburgh where you don't have to worry much about bratty kids as there are no high-chairs or kids menus....refreshing.

• Pros: No kids menu, no high-chairs...

The best Hamburgers in the history of the world!!! Bar None!!!

This place has the best hamburgers in the world. I have lived in several different countries and a couple different cities in the USA and Tessaro's is the best hamburger that I have ever eaten. My personal favorite is a medium-well Dry Blue Cheeseburger. Just don't get the burger well done, most of my friends from Asia order everything well done for safety reasons. At Tessaro's, they cook the burgers on a chargrill and well done burgers are usually dry. Stick to a medium-well burger and you will be rewarded with the best tasting burger ever. I even take new students from Yale to Tessaro's and every since person agrees that it is definitely better than the hamburger at Louis' Lunch.

• Pros: The hamburger! Don't get distracted by the other menu items, stick to the burger!
• Cons: Parking and small waiting area. Don't go on a Friday or Saturday night if it is cold outside.

great burgers served on filthy tablecloths by rude waitresses

No doubt, the burgers are great. The cooks work hard.

But, be prepared for the attitude of the hostess, who along with the owner "Tee," will look you up and down when you walk in, while others who arrive later are seated before you (apparently they go by party size, not first come first serve, even though they will not take reservations). You do not get the atmosphere of a friendly neighborhood bar from such a greeting.

When you get the burger, it will be placed on a denim tablecloths are soaked with stains. I watched as others left and the dirty tablecloths are simply shaken off, no matter how filthy.

It then takes forever to get the attention of the waitress, who has an attitude like the hostess and the owner.

Despite the wait and the inability to get the attention of the waitress, the hostess and owner will glare at you when others are waiting for a table in their cramped seating area.

So, by the time you finish the burger, the experience is far less than satisfying, unless filthy conditions and rude staff are your thing.

• Pros: great burger, but...
• Cons: rude staff, filthy conditions even for a bar & grille

Best EVERYTHING in the Country

I have been eating at Tessaro's since I was very little. I have not lived in Pittsburgh since 2000.....but everytime I come into town, I go straight to Tessaro's from the Airport; luggage and all!!! They not only have the best ribs on Thursdays and the best Mexican on Mondays, but they have the BEST BURGERS IN THE WORLD!!!!!! The Atmosphere is what really makes the experience. You see people enjoying great food for very little money! Kelly and the entire staff make the experience for you!

• Pros: Freshness of seafood, steaks and burgers. Napkins, atmosphere.....

Not worth the hype

The seating was reasonably prompt despite the crowded atmosphere, and the service was fine. However, the food was frankly unspectacular. I ordered their famous and award-winning hamburger while my wife had the prawns. They weren't bad, but we were a little disappointed given their reputation for great food. The prices also were not exactly $ (more like $$). Just tailor your expectations.

• Cons: Food not great, little pricy

I enjoyed the burgers the wait was a little long but not excessive (as the food was great). The staff could smile a little more and this website should not have a minimum of 100 characters.

No joke, the single best cheeseburger I've ever had in my life. I mean, it's not even close. Great atmosphere, too.

Ribs disappoint

I was a big fan of Tessaro's 20 years ago, and looked forward to eating there when I moved back to Pittsburgh recently. I made sure to go on a Thursday to enjoy their ribs, but I was quite disappointed. The ribs were burnt on the outside, and cold on the inside. They had clearly been cooked in advance, refrigerated, and reheated before serving. I've been there twice in the past year hoping that it was just an off night, but in fact, I find the quality isn't what it used to be.

• Pros: Gotta love seeing that hardwood grill fired up in back
• Cons: Crowded, sometimes a long wait for a table

Tessaro's has theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee best hamburger i've ever eaten in my life. No other hamburger on the east coast can compare! In addition to their hamburgers, their RIBS are top notch! Great people

Tessaro's has theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee best hamburger i've ever eaten in my life. No other hamburger on the east coast can compare! Of course you can drop by at Wendy's, McDonald's, Red Robin, Fuddruckers or Eatn' Park and grab one of their "prized" hamburgers, however, a Tessaros hamburger cannot be compared to such inferior pieces of meat slapped between mediocore buns. Once you try a Tessaro's hamburger, there's no turning back and every other hamburger tastes...well not what they're supposed to taste like. Bottom line......Tessaro's hamburgers mean BUSINESS. In addition to their hamburgers, their RIBS are top notch!!! Although they are only available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, they are definitely worth waiting for=) Last but certainly not least, the people working at Tessaro's are very friendly, warm, and helpful.
