I like the spring rolls because they aren't super loaded with herbs, even though the ones I had in Vietnam were, and the dipping sauce is yummy too. I've only been twice, once I sat down and once I got take out. Both times I got the beef pho and it was definitely better as takeout, you get soup in one container, noodles, medium rare beef (definitely some raw/pink) and onions and some herbs in another container and a baggy full of bean sprouts, mint and a lime wedge plus they pack some siracha hot sauce with a darker sauce and it was super fast, I went in and ordered and got it within 5 min. The only down side is that they only take cash or check.

  • Pros: Example: best croissants in town
  • Cons: What are the drawbacks?

I love Asian food of all different styles and fancies but I have never before ventured into the depths of Trams Kitchen. The first time I went there I was not sure what to get and the man with one arm who worked there instilled some doubt that maybe this was the wrong place to go. However my beautiful girlfriend continued to reassure me that this was a fine establishment and I was in for a treat. I was skeptical but she told me what to order and as usual I trusted her pretty face. I ordered the Beef Pho and three spring rolls as did she. As I waited for the "Pho" to grace my presence I glanced around the restaurant and tried to take in the atmosphere. I noticed a variety of people of all ages and backgrounds, so I blinded assumed everything was going to be ok. After holding my gorgeous girl friends hand for about ten minutes waiting for the arrival of the spring rolls and this so called "Pho" it suddenly appeared. I was not hesitant to consume the spring roll as my taste buds have crossed there path numerous times before. But Pho? This large steamy bowl of soup, beef and Pho noodles I did not know what to expect. My precious girl friend kept me calm and told me to add the hot sauce and plum sauce, conveniently located beside me on the table, to this unknown soup. After one bite I was overcome with pure utopia begining in my mouth and then traveling throughout my whole body. Who would have known that this eight dollar bowl of soup in some generic restaurant could be so scrumptious. About one minute later this beefy noodley concoction of godliness was completely engulfed in my happy stomache. Later upon arriving home I took a large doodie and went to sleep. Who would have know that the mysterious one armed man could be so right?

  • Pros: Great food, interesting waiters
  • Cons: Does god have any flaws?

I don't usually write reviews, but with the wide range of ratings for Tram's I figured I should chime in. I've been there three times, and while I haven't tried that many things from the menu, nearly all the food I've had has been excellent. As others have noted, the spring rolls are delicious. My sister and I both liked the shrimp/pork spring rolls better than the vegetarian ones, but the latter were good too. My favorite at Tram's, though, is the "Vegetarian Mixed Vegies" (sic), which is one of the tastiest and most original vegetarian entrees in Pittsburgh (outside of Kaya). Concerns expressed by others about cleanliness and service are probably valid, but when the food is this good I can look beyond them. With the low price of admission, it's definitely worth a try!

Their fresh spring rolls are AWESOME. There is no better. Every other restaurant I get spring rolls at around Pittsburgh smells funny to me. The pho is all good, as well as the vermicelli, tofu, and lemongrass dishes. The fried rice is unique, as it has lots of garlic, and a sweet taste to it.

The atmosphere is a little dumpy, and the service is terribly slow. The place is routinely filled to capacity, and they probably don't have enough real-estate in the kitchen to keep pace with all of the people ordering. More often than not, its worth the hassle. There have been times when I've waited unreasonably long for a meal though...

  • Pros: Some very well refined dishes. Best fresh spring rolls around.
  • Cons: SLOOOOOOW, small, and dirty.

The service is slow and servants are not not friendly. We asked for extra basil sometimes, never come. Always throw the check on the table. not a good place to enjoy food. we have tried more than 70 places in Pittsburgh. This is the worst one.

Tram's is where I go when I want to enjoy a meal, relax, and enjoy conversation with my husband, friends, or company. It's my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh, by far. I love their food and really like that I can go in my work clothes, rather than feel like I have to get dressed to go out. The prices are good, I try not to go during peak hours, and I always feel satisfied when I leave. I have been going there for 11 years and Tram knows me as #17 with shrimp. (She smiles curiously if I order something different.) We love the fresh spring rolls and enjoy the ever-changing table cloths. At one point there were farm animals and chickens or something. Coconut milk and vermicelli noodles go with everything. When somebody asks where I want to go for a meal, it's always Tram's - even on special occassions. You don't have to spend a lot of money or sit in the dark to enjoy eating out. Did I mention that I can walk there? Bonus!

  • Pros: Good food, even though #17 with shrimp is different each time!
  • Cons: Small dining area.

Now, I have to be fair, which is why I chose to give Tram's Kitchen 2 stars rather than 1. I've been there twice. The first time we were seated promptly and our food came out in a reasonable timeframe. We like to eat pho, but this pho was mediocre at best. Well, actually, it didn't taste nearly as good as any other pho I've had, excepting a white-people restaurant trying to pull of the soup. Last night we went again, were seated promptly, and only ordered pho again. "That's all?" the waiter asked, as if he were expecting us to order more. So why did we wait nearly an hour and still not see any food?? And no one updated us or apologized. My husband stood up to ask if our food would be coming but was given a curt answer. As we were leaving (not having been served anything but water), the guy chased us outside, asking why we were leaving, and telling us our food was ready. We couldn't stay any longer. We may have gone the entire night without dinner. All in all, I would not recommend this place to anyone. However, I've heard that Pho Minh is a good place to go for pho. That's our next try....

  • Pros: Decent price
  • Cons: dirty, poor service, less-than-mediocre pho

So here it goes...We ordered the spring rolls, egg rolls, Pho, Deep Fried Egg Noodles Combination meat, and Soft Fried Egg Noodles tofu. Being vietnamese, I was looking for how "mom" makes it and this come no where near close. We were seated right away but our meals did not come out until an hour later. The pho tasted like "Canh chua"...AKA...sour soup and they did not have any basil...uggh. The noodle dishes were mediocre at best. The owner came out and have the nerve to speak to us in Viet..."telling" us the food is good! I wanted to say "NO" but did not want to be rude. I am still looking for a good vietnamese restaurant in the Pittsburgh area where I will be able to take my parents when they come into town! Help!

  • Pros: N/A
  • Cons: Vietnamese, this is not!
