Over rated slop
by jussanuddername at Citysearch
People say they like this crap to be "in."
Try to define what kind of meat actually goes into their
"cheese steak." If you go late at night when it's busy with all the obnoxious drunks, they charge you what they want to.
A pittsburgh institution

Primatis has great food and fast service. They have the best french fries and coleslaw in the city. I don't know how, but their bread is so fresh, no matter what time of day or night. Great for after clubbing.
- Pros: Fresh food, quick service, must go place
- Cons: not for romantic dining
More food for your Dollar
by djculch at Citysearch
First start your sandwich off with almost any thing you can think of. The list goes from Fried Eggs to Cheesesteak. Then you get a heaping generous porportion of Slaw and Fries added on top. Do not order the fries and slaw on the side either. Its not primanti's if the slaw and fries isn't on the sandwich. Its a must eat every time I go back into town. Not only can you get in, have your food, and have it eaten in about 20-30 mins. Your total cost with a drink is about $6.50 on avg. On a personal note get the spicey chicken and add a few dabs of hot sauce from the table to it and a ice cold yeungling and you are good to go.
- Pros: you seat yourself and don't wait long for your food.
- Cons: It gets a lil rowdy on the south side on a sat night.
Pittsburgh's signature sandwich shop serves up huge portions in a brotherly love atmosphere.

The Scene
This Pittsburgh landmark is where you'll find all the native clubgoers before they hit the party scene and the night owls who hit it for after-hour noshing. The service is efficient and friendly, reflective of the town it represents.
The Food
The Primanti way of making a sandwich may not be famous worldwide, but it's certainly known citywide. Served on wax paper, meat, french fries, tomato and coleslaw are stuffed between two slices of Italian bread. The beauty lies in the simplicity. They call it a sandwich, but it goes down like a meal. The cheese steak, which is actually a burger, not shaved steak, is listed as "the No. 2 favorite." What's No. 1? "Beer," according to the staff. Vegetarian? How about a triple grilled cheese? The hot sausage, bratwurst and egg sandwiches are also great craving killers.
The best sandwich ever
by retmission at Citysearch
The people in Pittsburgh are the luckiest people on earth. This is the best, cheapest and most filling sandwich, I have ever had. It is actually a whole meal. My sister lives here and we went there once and I went every day while there. There is nothing the US or Europe to compare. Lucky, lucky, lucky.
- Pros: Big meal, Great taste, Tasty
- Cons: Only in Pittsburgh

OK, Primanti's is an institution in PGH and the sandwiches are good. But this is a FRIES category and Primanti's are soggy and undercooked. It is not where you go for Fries, the "O" is a thousand times better
- Pros: inexpensive , a real experience, loud
Best sandwiches in the Burgh!
by burghfan76 at Citysearch
If you visit or live in the Pittsburgh area, and don't visit Primanti Bros., you are missing a classic 'Burgh foodfest! You WILL leave full! The city and surrounding area is overflowing with various types of food from many different cultures, but the best sandwiches are @ Primanti's. I know I will be there every time I return 'home'! They have opened another shop in Harmerville (Exit 48 {old #5} PA Turnpike). Don't pass it by.
Great cheese steaks!
by tyggergirl at Citysearch
I was in Pittsburgh for work and I'd have to say that one of the highlights was the cheese steak @ Primanti Bros. It was piled high with great fries and an even better cole slaw-type mix. Yummy! but messy!! It was served on waxed paper and I probably went through 10 napkins. As far as ambience goes, it felt like a neighborhood bar. I went for lunch on Saturday and felt comfortable enough eating alone. Several 40-something guys at the bar. Several 20-something groups sitting at the tables.
Utah has it right

I still remember a friend taking me to this dive when I was visiting Pittsburgh. When I tell people that any sandwich from fried egg to burgers are topped with your fries AND cole slaw, they look at me like I'm nuts. Hey, it all goes to the same place anyway! Great institution. Lots of color and character.
