Overrated and Overpriced
by jme200 at Citysearch
I checked this place out at the recommendation of numerous people on a quest to find a delicious pie in the burgh. Having grown up outside of New Haven, CT I was privileged to have a lot of excellent pizza options. Mineo's just does not live up to the billing. The fact that it has won so many awards is troubling. I am now worried about the quality of pizza I will most likely not be able to find in the area. The pizza itself is decent, and I did like the very unique flavor of the crust, but the volume of the cheese is too overwhelming. Overall, its not bad, just not fantastic. Plus $18 for a large before toppings... no thanks.
- Pros: Great atmosphere for a dine in pizza place
- Cons: Price and Hype
Mineos pizza

I used to go to Mineos a lot, I thought the pizza was the best ever. Lately it has really gone down hill. I paid $28.00 for a burnt pizza!!! Never again. Recently I found a pizza shop in Sewickly, family owned, they make their own sausage, yum-yum. Their pizza is greatttt, a must try. Tony R's pizza, you will never be disappointed. Personally I will never go to Mineos again.
- Pros: not many
- Cons: burnt
Great Pizza

Great pizza! Excellant crust and the sauce will make you cream in your jeans. The only thing is I can't figure out the protocol for cleaning off your table. Do you do it yourself or do you leave the scrappings on the table..I don't know, but what I do know is this.. At least you do not have to rehash your order like most Pittsburgh eaterys.
- Pros: probably the best pizza you'll ever eat
- Cons: no protocol for cleaning tables
We love this place!

We visited Pittsburgh with friends last night, and after spending the afternoon "pubbing" in South Side, we returned to our hotel only to find the restaurant we really wanted to go to closed. Not wanting to venture out this late, we thought...PIZZA! The front desk staff recommended this place and another. We chose due to the 16" XL pizza for around $11.00. This pizza was excellent. I think you could probably do better in New York or Chicago, but we come from a small town in Ohio that has about 20 pizza joints, and this beats all of them. The cheese is ooey-gooey, but just enough of it so it doesn't overwhelm the flavor. This place goes light on the sauce so you don't burn your mouth. The crust was thin with just enough EVOO to give it good texture. It was delivered within 30 min. on a Saturday night, and was piping hot! I do agree that I wish the whole "slide factor" on the toppings was minimized, but you get that with thin crust pizza. All in all I give it 5 stars!!
- Pros: Price and taste.
- Cons: Sliding toppings.
Terrible Service - Very Rude - Food Is SO/SO

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. I had never eating pizza from this place and i wanted to try something new. I found their number online and called to place an order. I was very clear on my order and when i went to pick up the pizza, it was wrong and they charged me 21.00 for six pieces of pizza. Honest mistake i thought to myself. When i explained this to the clerk he became very angry with me and started yelling. When i was walking out of the restaurant, i heard the man say to another worker "F*$%n' Kid." I proceed to call the owner and he handled the issue in a professional manor, however he did nothing to make me feel like i didn't wasted $21.00 on six mediocre slices of pizza. I recommend you stay far away from this business and go elsewhere for some some pizza.
- Pros: None, this place is dirty and hasn't been cleaned since it was opened
- Cons: None, this place is dirty and hasn't been cleaned since it was opened
Tastes like pizza in a Jewish neighborhood...

For years I was told to buy my pizza at Mineo's. It's the best, you can't beat it, nothing better, top rates for years by the hometown mag...Enough already! So I went. We ordered 3 different pies, one plain, one with pepperoni, and one with pep/mush/sausage. All three were very dry, yet greasy. In other words, the grease, cheese and toppings slid off the pizza and all over my hands. I tasted a hint of provolone in the cheese, a nice touch but a bit too sharp. The toppings were not great, classic, but mushrooms seem toi come from a can. I guess if you don't want anything special, just good average pizza, go to Mineo's. Sorry guys, this place is not even in my top 10 for Pittsburgh Pizza. I can tell you at least 15 better places to get pizza in Pittsburgh that have higher quality, character and originality. Don't get me started on service. Does anyone who works there even know how to smile or say thank you? I guess nobody wants to venture out for quality, fresh, authentic pie anymore. Let's all go to Mineo's...you can have it. Oh, by the way, bring cash. No plastic taken here!
- Pros: Nice area of town
- Cons: Too dry, not very fresh tasting
Best thing to eat at 1am after a night out on town
by Nozamaya at Citysearch
The pizza is wonderfully greasy and cheesy like a pizza should be. Crust could have more flavor, but at 1 am on a Friday or Saturday, it is the best hands down.
- Pros: Pizza the way it should be.
- Cons: They aren't open until 2 or 3am
This is the Best in Pittsburgh???

Lots of people told me that I HAD to goto Mineo when in Pittsburgh. I was excited to go, and when I got there I felt like I was home (NYC). Then the pizza came out and I realized that I was in the country. THIS is what everyone was raving about?!?!?! YES, there is lots of cheese and the cheese is good- greasy but good. My guess is like everyone else, that there is some mozz and some provolone mixed in. The sauce is nice, but not really anything special. The crust was dry and too compressed. Maybe I just wanted it to be great and it wasn't. It was good, but nothing special. I decided to be fair to the Burgh and walked up the block, you can see my review there. If you want some REAL good pizza, make the trip to the BIG city folks. Any neighborhood pizza parlor beats this place hands down.
- Pros: Feels like a pizzeria should...
Best Pizza in Pittsburgh

What can I say I have been going to mineos as long as I can remember. The only thing that changed is prices raising over time. ( which happens with everything) anyway, mineos has oil coming off it but thats the best part especially when you put some garlic on it and top it off with a ice tea in a carton like most of my fellow ( greenfield people).I highly suggest mineos ( at least once)
- Pros: Its the Best
- Cons: None
NOT THE BEST IN THE BURG BY FAR!
by theoaklandkid at Citysearch
Pizza Lovers, pay close attention. I happen to write food article reviews for a local Pgh paper. Mineo's, claims to have the #1 Pizza in the burgh. Not sure how in the hell they achieved that rating as they are anything but. Trust me, the only way they would be able to garner a #1 Rating legally is they must be paying for it. To be sure, I went to this establishment last week to prove or disprove what I've been hearing all these years. To Be somewhat descriptive, their crust is oil laden to the point where it soaks through to the bottom. Biting into the crust is an expierence -- Very hard, and as I said, Oil laden--way too much EVOO, and I'm an Oil lover so that may give you an idea of what I'm saying. The sauce and Toppings? Very Avg at best. Nothing to brag or write home about. I can think of at least 20 other Pizza Establishments that I would go to before settling on Mineos. Those that think this is the best pizza in town either have serious taste bud issues, or just don't know any better--Or have never really had top notch Pizza. Looking for the best Pizza in the Burg? Then take a walk right up the Street to Aiello's. I'm NOT the owner nor do I have any affiliation with Aiello's. Without going into detail, I'll leave it up to you. Go to Mineo's, order a few cuts anyway you like, then Immed take a 1/2 block hike up the street to Aiello's and COMPARE! Although everyone's taste varies to some extent, after tasting the diff between the 2, if you think Mineos is better, make an appointment to see your ENT Doc Pronto! In summary: NO COMPARISON! Whoever writes or Endorses Mineo's as having the Best Pizza in town, are either Paid Off by Mineos Owner/ Mgmt, or they are tight Friends with someone. Its simply a Joke in my book to compare, and I've traveled the globe a number of times over sampling food at every port.
This LIE needs to stop! It is NOT the #1 Pizza in the Burg. *Not even close*
- Pros: It's just Ok
- Cons: Crust hard and Oil laden. Toppings, Avg
