Steel garnish

by ngv

I had every intention of enjoying an authentic Korean dining experience. What I got was luke-warm Bee Bim Bap garnished with a piece of steel wool form an abrasive cleaning sponge. We walked into an empty restaurant. Our food was never fully hot and tended to rely heavily on salt. The bee bim bap I ordered came in a cold bowl (it's suppose to be sizzling in a stone bowl) and after taking a few bites, I discovered a coil of steel wool among the rice. I told the waitress who matter-of-factly told me it was a piece of steel cleaning wool from the kitchen. She did not take the order off my bill. My experience may or may not have been unique but I will not be returning.

Outstanding authentic Korean food!

by JaimeLynne

I found this restaurant while searching for something different and decided to give this Korean jewel a try. And am I glad I did! This restaurant has become my newest addiction! The food is very authentic and everything that I've had on the menu so far is just out of this world, my current favorite being the chicken yaki soba. Great noodle dish with the freshest veggies and the biggest cuts of chicken, and the sauce? Yum! You get to choose the heat and the portions are very nice. Food is always fresh and hot, even for take out. The atmosphere is cute, very casual and very cozy, nothing too fancy. The waitresses are just wonderful and very sweet and the owner is super nice.....you're treated like family as soon as you walk in. I definitely recommend this restaurant to just about anyone! And don't forget to save some room for dessert! The green tea ice cream is a terrific way to end your meal. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to order some take out! :)

  • Pros: portion size, varied menu to please any palate, service
  • Cons: parking

VERY NICE RESTAURANT

by kyoko0101

The master of this restaurant is a nice person. My Japanese friend worked at this restaurant over 4 years ago. While she worked there, often yelled at her if she didn't do anything wrong(in front of customers) and threw food at her face. On the other hand he always treated his daughters as 'princesses'. My friend quit before taking that action.

Best Korean food in Pittsburgh

by miss_dc

I come to visit Pittsburgh at least once a month for business and I never once pass up an opportunity to have a home cooked Korean meal at Ginza in Oakland on Atwood Street. This family owned business has been like a home to me and every time I come in there they treat me like family. The cook, Bok Hee Kim "mom" cooks the best Korean food I have ever tasted. This is truly a family establishments but I planned business lunches and dinners there too. Mrs. Kim has even prepared food for catered meeting and so forth. I love everything on the menu and I really suggest you go and check it out for yourself. The Kim's also opened Oriental Super, which is also on Atwood. This little Asian market has everything you would need for any Asain recipe. Check them out. They will be sure to please you.....

Discover a hidden treasure known mostly to the Korean community.

by Contributor

The Scene
Owner Chong Won Kim is the sushi chef, but it's his wife, Bokhee, whose cooking never fails to impress on every visit.

For Starters
Her gyoza soup, filled with pork dumplings, gets things off to a great start. If you're with a group, try the nok du jun, a mung bean pancake filled with sprouts, pork, vegetables and homemade kimchee.

The Entrees
For a main dish, bibimbap, the traditional street food of meat, vegetables, sprouts and fern roots served over rice, is good here, as is tak tori tan, a spicy chicken stew with potato, carrots, coriander and a very hot sauce.

Can't get no fresher than this

by Da_G_Spot

I love this place. It has the best and freshest sushi. Their Korean food is to die for, very authentic and very well served. The waitresses there are very welcoming and helpful to those who don't know the food very well. Out of all Korean restaurants, this is my number one choice. No one makes Korean food like the cook at Ginza.

  • Pros: good quality, affordable, delicious food
  • Cons: more space
