This is a real rib joint
by Bbqstu
This is what barbecue should be those that think its rude need lessons on how to order food whether busy or not, the old style of ordering is "Have your money in your hand and your order on your mind". No its not fancy, but a good barbecue joint is not suppose to be. If you want to get food from a fancy place stick with the chain restaurants that get the ribs boiled in brine water and just reheat them on a charbroiler. I've never had a problem with the food, ordering, or service. I have my own line of barbecue products and patronize Wilsons because I like good people that work hard and love what they do.
- Pros: Real barbecue
- Cons: parking at night
Pretty good.......best in the Burgh
by drewbranham
I have been trying to find good 'real' BBQ since I moved to Pittsburgh and I think I found it at Wilson's. The flavor of the meat and sauce (both hot and mild) are outstanding. My only issue is that both times I was there the ribs were a little tough. They would be the best ribs ever if they gave you a babyback option
- Pros: Sauce, flavor, sides
- Cons: No babyback options
WILSON'S BAR-B-Q
by darfinney
TO THE HATERS OF OLDER PEOPLE. MY DAD HAS WORKED VERY HARD FOR HIS REPUTATION AND WE ARE THE BEST. HE HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR OVER 40 YRS.. THERE IS NOT ANOTHER BAR-B-Q PLACE THAT CAN SAY THAT. ESP. HERE IN PGH..THERE IS A SIGN IN WILSON'S THAT SAYS TO PLEASE ORDER YOUR FOOD ALL AT ONE TIME. I WROTE IT. I DON'T LIKE UNDOING WHAT I HAVE DONE EITHER. SOME PEOPLE COME IN ON THEIR CELL PHONES AND THERE IS A SIGN FOR THAT. SOMETIMES THERE IS A LINE TO GET IN. PEOPLE WHO LIKE THE BEST BAR-B-Q WILL WAIT. WHEN YOU SAY THINGS ABOUT PEOPLE IN THE NEGATIVE THAT'S OK. BUT, I WANT YOU TO REMEMBER MR. WILSON HAS A LOT OF FAMILY THAT LOVE HIM AND IF U HAPPEN TO COME BACK, TALK TO HIM. HE IS A VERY SMART MAN. I NEVER SAY ANYTHING WHEN OLDER PEOPLE GET TESTY WITH ME BECAUSE IT MAY BE YOUR MOM OR DAD.
- Pros: TAKE OUT
- Cons: CAN'T GET ENOUGH

His ribs are the best, the hot sauce is no joke! He has to be "rude" thats how he survived so long in that neighborhood. Your safe in his place, the hoods wont go anywhere near him!
DOWN RIGHT RUDE
by RIBLOVE
THE RIBS ARE GOOD...SOMETIMES. YOU HAVE TO ORDER EVERYTHING AT ONCE OR THE OLD MAN GETS RUDE. ITS NOT LIKE THERE'S A LINE TO GET IN. THE SERVICE IS POOR.
Mr. Wilson on Steve Harvey's Radio Show
by moonchildiva
I just heard Mr. Wilson on Steve Havey's radio show and he made me WANT TO COME TO PITTSBURGH today! A really fun interview and made my mouth water for his ribs! See ya soon, Mr. Wilson! I just might have to plan a vacation around visiting your restaurant!
Louisiana Recipe
by pghinstpete
The ownner of Wilsons once told me that the recipe came from Louisiana during the slave days. I've taken several friends there over the days and they all raved. Everytime I make it to Pittsburgh I try to stop by Wilsons for the best ribs in the country. The meat falls off the bones and the sauces are excellent. Mild is HOT and Hot is firehouse!!! I recommend going mild with the Hot on the side. The neighborhood is not that great so be careful.
- Pros: The Ribs
- Cons: The nieghborhood
The city's favorite southern pit-style BBQ makes up for its lack of seating with serious smoked meats.

In Short
Though there are a couple of tables available, Wilson's Bar-B-Q is a genuine Southern-pit barbecue, selling takeout almost exclusively. Slow-cooked meats include tender chicken and pork ribs. Meals come with spongy, commercial white bread that's perfect for sopping up the tangy sauce (available hot or mild). Creamy sides include potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw and peppery collard greens.
- Pros: family-owned

Mouth-watering
by Shadow14US
If your looking for REAL BBQ, then this is the place to enjoy your ribs or chicken. If you want commercial, then go elsewhere. The ribs fall off the bone and the smoked flavor will remind you of days gone by. Everytime I return to Pgh, I always make sure to stop and have a plate. I live in New Mexico and even we don't get it this good.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Good Food, Excellent
- Cons: , Non-Corporate, Non-BS
