Never Paid So Much For So Little
by mookieinny
This past weekend three friends and I spent two nights at the Morning Glory Inn, Pittsburgh. What a scam. We were charged higher rates then the ones we booked, were put on the top floor (think 3 steep flights) with no help carrying bags. Our accommodations consisted of two beds for four adults (not couples). Trudging up the steep incline like a pack mule got me up close and personal with the filthy carpet - a sign of things to come. This place is the pits and the insulting accommodations and lack of services is rivaled only by the rude, arrogant and clearly misplaced hosts. These people should consider another line of work, possibly one including paper hats and flipping burgers.
If you, fellow traveler, read anything positive about this place it was either written a very long time ago or was written by the owners. The rooms were freezing, showers were freezing, rooms were not clean, partiers yelling in the street till 3:00 a.m. both nights, and two completely disconnected owners who act like they have nothing to do with the place other than to serve a light breakfast (read: no choices / no meats). Bottom line: $900.00 for two beds / two nights. Disgraceful considering the true service (historical) establishments available in Pittsburgh. Stay at the Omni, or Hilton or on a local river bank - just avoid The Morning Glory Inn. Wish I could give them zero stars.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Rude owners in a sub-standard house.
Just call and chat with this guy on the phone. You'll get it. He's horrible!

If I could give this a -10, I would. I have no idea how this place could win any award. Check out the reviews on other webpages, there are more negative than positive. The owner did not even seem phased when I told him I had a horrible experience. He could have cared less.
The male innkeeper had the personality of a doorknob. The place was dirty, the sink handle broke off in the bathroom as I turned the water on, there were white splotches of previous toothpaste users in the bathroom all over the walls, the water sat in the tub while I took a shower without draining and the hot water lasted 5 minutes before turning freezing cold, the rooms were cold with no ability to turn the heat up on your own, it was very noisy outside late into the night, there was no door to one of the bathrooms of the two rooms we rented, the tvs were so small you could hardly see them, the carpeting was dirty. There was no one there to greet us when we got there and I felt as though I was putting these people out by staying here. We lugged our stuff up three flights of stairs. For $900 for two rooms for two nights, we could have stayed at the Omni downtown with no hassle and pleasant people.
Pop a tent and save yourself the hassle! This place is horrid.
- Pros: The kitchen help was a nice woman who I felt extremely sorry for because she had to put up with these people.
- Cons: Everything.
Wonderful location - terrible owner

We have just returned from having our wedding at the Morning Glory Inn. The inn itself is very charming and located in a beautiful setting. However, the owner, Dave is beyond belief - rude, unaccomodating and very difficult to deal with. On our initial visit, he was very nice and seemed to be willing to accomodate any request. As the wedding day neared, his attitude changed 100% and it became apparent very quickly that his initial demeanor was simply to charm us into giving him an outrageous amount of money to rent his property. Our guests found him to be extremely rude and made many feel very uncomfortable.
We dropped by some supplies the day before the ceremony and had a brief run through of what to expect the next day. Since the weather was not cooperating and it was quite chilly - in the upper 40's, we asked that Dave be sure to have the outdoor fireplaces lit and ready to go for our reception which was to begin as soon as the ceremony was over. He would only light 2 of the fireplaces which did not warm the area in the least so all of our guests were freezing in the courtyard.
We were from out of town and the added stress of having to deal with Dave just about ruined the day for us but thanks to a great caterer, minister and florist - everything was wonderful and we just tried to ignore Dave. The most interesting thing is that each one of our vendors as well as the manicurist who did our nails had nothing good to say about Dave - they all said that his reputation was very bad.
The only good thing I can say about this location is that it is beautiful and that Nancy (Dave's wife) is pretty nice but it is obvious she is told what to do by him and doesn't have much influence or control over him.
My advice is NOT to use the Morning Glory Inn for any special event as the cost is very expensive and you do not get the value for your money. We wish we had known all the negatives before choosing this location
- Pros: Beautiful inn and great location
- Cons: Rude and unaccomodating owner
Terrible Innkeepers Ruined a Great Event
by sweetjerz
I had the opportunity to attend a wedding at the Morning Glory Inn on the South Side of Pittsburgh on Sunday, May 6th 2007 and what I and my fellow wedding guests witnessed can only be described as egregious hospitality from innkeepers and host, Nancy Eshelman.
Upon arriving, my family and friends were thoroughly impressed with the inn?s quaint setting, intimate brick courtyard, and southern-hospitality appeal. Unfortunately for the guests, including the bride and groom, those good feelings were replaced in short order by discomfort, tension and blatant disrespect towards the guests, all of which were a direct result of Nancy Eshelman?s appalling and coarse behavior. The instances in which the guests were made to feel unwelcome and downright awkward should have had no place at a celebration of marriage.
Sadly, examples of this reproachful behavior were plentiful. While the ceremony was beautiful, the whole day?s experience was far from exceptional and what I feel is most unfortunate for the keepers of the Morning Glory Bed and Breakfast is that in an industry like hospitality, word of mouth is the best method of advertising. Among the guests of Sunday?s affair were many successful Pittsburgh business owners, including the parents of the groom. This coupled with the fact that the bride and groom themselves are two highly reputable players in Pittsburgh?s culinary scene should make any innkeeper think twice before choosing between running their inn so callously and ensuring that their guests feel as welcome as possible. Perhaps this letter will be a wakeup call for the owners of the inn, or perhaps you just cannot teach an old dog common sense. I am certain of one thing and that is that I will never recommend the Morning Glory Bed and Breakfast for any function whatsoever and I will strongly advise those who are considering it for an event to not be fooled by its aesthetic beauty because beneath it lays a disaster waiting to happen.
- Pros: Nice setting
- Cons: Outrageously Rude Innkeepers overshadowed the entire wedding ceremony
Personalized style and service make for a memorable stay.

The Scene
The massive, beautifully carved front door reflects the attention to detail found within. The place is almost always full (except from January through March), and its consideration of the needs of business travelers means you won't always find the typical B&B crowd here.
The Details
Each bedroom is individually decorated and has its own bathroom. The Garden Room features white wicker and pink lattice wallpaper; the John G. Fisher Room has earthier tones, although the style is still Victorian. Striking accents include black wallpaper dappled with pink roses in the Josephine Ormsby Yard Room. Rooms are equipped with speaker phones, voice mail and wireless Internet access. Original pine floors and a fireplace adorn the home's former kitchen, which now serves as the dining room. Among breakfast offerings are treats like cold strawberry soup and cinnamon bread-pudding French toast with bourbon sauce.
