I am a client of Sybil salon and it looks like Sybil is posting fake super positive comments again. Sybil also took down a "true" review. Keep making up those positibve reviews Sybil. All I can say is beware. Remember Sally Field in Sybil, well you figure it out. This is my opinion of course. But I guess the truth is hard to hear. I guess city search is for fake comments.

I recently moved back to 80's land..ie..pittsburgh..lets just say this is not the most cosmopolitian city on the planet,,in fact it ranks just above the primoridal ooze that founded the mantel of this earth we live on. I was at a loss for a competent hair stylist that had more experience than just cutting her barbies hair as a child and decided that fashion was her calling. On the advice of a good friend I was introduced to Stephanie who was relativley new to Sybil Salon. She was kind, extremely professional, and very attentive to every aspect of my hair cutting demands. She is nothing short of perfection and has mastered her craft as only a seasoned professional could. The ambience of this Day Spa is so relaxing and very upscale. Sybil is the heart of Ellsworth Ave and I shutter to think what would happen if she decided to relocate. If you want to feel like a rock star, and recieve the treatment of the Queen of the British Empire then take a trip to shadyside and ask for Stephanie. I am a Health Care professional and I must look my best at all times, the staff at Sybil are experts at what they do and the price is more than reasonable. For those of you out their that want more than a 6 dollar hair cut from bo-ricks, look no further. My reccomendation is only a precurser to how truley amazing the staff is at this wonderful establishment. To truely enjoy this experience pick up the phone and make an appointment. Let go of the mullets and the blond streaks with bangs. Its 2008 people, Bon Jovi cut his hair, all you yinzers should follow your idol and do the same. Sincerely, James L 2nd Year resident Pittsburgh Health Care Systems

Pros: Wonderful salon with friendly attentive staff. Free shrimp and wine at Christmas!!

Cons: NONE

I moved to Pittsburgh about a year ago and was very nervous about finding a hair stylist that would live up to my expectations. I consulted citysearch to find a salon and was instantly drawn to Sybil because of the proximity to where I live. I choose to listen to the positive comments and ignore some of the seemingly brash criticisms - my intuition was right on! My first appointment with Stephanie was amazing and I have gone back to her SEVERAL times since. She never ceases to impress me with her highlighting and cutting capabilities. She always listens to my preferences (have you ever gone to a hair stylist that cut off WAY more than you asked for...Stephanie won't!) and blends the color perfectly (and believe me, I let my highlights go a little longer than they should). If you are looking for reasonably priced cut/color and an atmosphere filled with people that truly enjoy what they are doing - you do not want to overlook Sybil. While she has never cut my hair I have seen her work many times and Lisa does a great job too - you can't lose!

Pros: Fun and skilled staff, reasonable prices

Cons: Free parking can be tough to find, but their is a cheap lot right across the street!

I have been going to Sybil for a year now and have had nothing but great experiences! I get my hair cut and colored, eyebrows waxed, facials and massage. I go to Stephanie for cut and color every month and she is AWESOME! I would recommend her to anyone and everyone! In fact, my mom, my aunt, my 2 friends and their moms all get their hair done by Stephanie. I have also gone to Lisa once and she is great as well! The spa services are fabulous too! Since my first facial with Amanda, I have not broken out once! Everyone that I have been to there is very friendly and professional. If you are looking for a new salon, definitely check out Sybil!

Pros: Stephanie, Amanda, overall experience

Hello! I visited the salon last week and had my hair cut and eyebrows waxed. I think it's best to review the services separately. First, my eyebrow wax was FABULOUS. I have very difficult eyebrows, and this was one of (if not) the best waxes of my life!!! Amanda is amazing. She really listens and tries to make you happy while complimenting your face. I highly suggest visiting for the waxing service. I did not do any other wax, but I will in the near future. Next, my haircut...well...I won't tell you the name of my stylist, but I never felt so insignificant in my life. While we were talking about my hair and how much to cut etc., she had visitors and other people interrupt us. I felt like I was intruding on her personal time with friends. During the cut, I tried to strike up a conversation, but she was more interested in speaking with other stylists and customers. The cut itself is pretty BAD. I was happy that she didn't harass me to cut more, but she refused to cut my bangs the way I like. I understand it may not look super chic to have shorter bangs with long hair, but I like to cover my forehead a little bit. Also, I don't cut my hair as often as I should...in a month or so, my bangs will be long enough. I was very unhappy with my haircut. If you go, be sure to work with a stylist who is willing to do what you want. Finally, the parking situation...the guy who owns/runs the lot across the street is the most RUDE man I've ever dealt with in Pittsburgh. I will never park my car ANYWHERE in his vicinity. On a prior occasion, he stole money out of my car. I tend to leave a few bucks in my ash tray because I forget cash for parking or tolls. Although the amount was small...I'll never allow him to "valet" my car. When I pulled in, I asked if I could take my keys with me, and he told me to get out and that I can't park my **** car. I could understand if he said...valet parking is policy, but he was completely rude. Park on the street

Pros: Amanda, Waxing

Cons: Products, Parking

I moved back to the area a few months ago from Seattle. I had a LOT of trouble finding someone in Pittsburgh who was good at eyebrow waxing/shaping. Then I found Amanda (based on reviews) at Sybil, and she did a FANTASTIC job shaping my eyebrows. Also, the salon is very clean and nicely decorated. I definitely recommend Amanda for waxing!

Pros: beautiful salon, good value

Cons: nothing negative

I read about Amanda here on Citysearch, went for a brow appointment and I'm so glad I did! Amanda is great and she does a fabulous job with my eyebrows. She shapes them so they frame my face beuatifully, she is very gentile with my sensitive skin, and it is so very relaxing in her salon. I've been to quite a few esthetician for brow shaping who were rated very highly here on Citysearch. Out of all of them, I have to say that Amanda is the best, hands down. You'll get great brows and great service. I highly recommend her!

I was on business in Pittsburgh and having a bad hair day. I chose Sybil despite the negative review because the salon was nearby and they were able to schedule me on short notice. It was a wonderful experience. Stephanie gave me a perfect cut. The receptionist was lovely. The salon was clean and the environment calm. The cost was very fair and a good value. I will definitely return to Sybil again.

Pros: Skill, service, nice environment

Cons: Others mentioned parking, but there is a lot $3 per hour directly across the street

Never again! After reading the reviews about this salon, I was expecting a fabulous haircut and a great experience. I thought the salon was nice, but that's it. Parking was horrible and the prices are too high for just and average cut. I could have went to any salon for the same thing and saved alot of money!!!!!

I booked a Brazilian on the strength of these reviews and I am VERY happy. Obviously not everyone will be pleased but I think Amanda is brilliant-- better than anyone I've gone to in NYC, Boston or Chicago. She's also great with eyebrows. Only negative I can think of is that a few times, the waxing room has been extremely hot, which is kind of uncomfortable, but I'll put up with that any day if the rest of what's usually an unpleasant experience can be handled this efficiently and this well!

Pros: great, fast Brazilians; also good for strong (but cleaned-up) brows

Cons: parking can be a drag; waxing room a bit hot sometimes
