In the months of preparation before our wedding, there wasn't anything wedding-related that was close to being as romantic and fun and relaxing as the few dance lessons we took from Leslie. We had a great time, and though they must see hundreds of couples a year we never felt like we were being churned out of an impersonal learn-a-wedding-dance factory. We had never danced before and really enjoyed how at ease we were made to feel. Leslie made dancing seem far more approachable than we had anticipated. We absolutely recommend NY Wedding Dance to anyone and everyone. Unfortunately, we were too happy and full of nervous energy at the wedding to be at all graceful, but that has everything to do with our negligence in practicing and nothing to do with our instruction. But we don't really care; I think our lessons will be more memorable in the years to come than the few minutes of the actual dance.
Pros: Nice people, personalized instruction, great space, relaxing
Cons: none

My wife and I got married on September 29, 2007, and we took 10 lessons with Nathan beforehand. We had no formal training, but we were always considered the best dancers among our (admittedly rhythmically-challenged) group of friends, so we wanted to do more than just rock back and forth to Etta James for 3 minutes. After doing a ton of research and visiting a number of NYC dance studios, we decided to go with NY Wedding Dance because 1) the price was significantly lower than most places; but moreso, 2) the crew there seemed willing and eager to challenge us. When we said that we wanted to include a lift, most other instructors cringed, but Nathan said, No problem. Each lesson was very professional and a lot of fun. The practice floors are totally private and quite large. We really choreographed the routine together; he listened to our suggestions, and included moves that we saw on Dancing with the Stars. But Nathan always made sure that we didn't get so wrapped up in the technique that we lost our connection with each other. On our wedding night, even with the billowing dress and slippery rental shoes, we absolutely nailed the routine, which included three lifts, two dips, and a death drop. Our families and friends were blown away; it was the talk of the night, and we still get compliments about it months later. There is no doubt in our minds that we chose the right studio. When you plan your wedding, you think that you'll remember every detail of the day, but trust me, it goes by so fast that you won't. There are a few moments from that day that will truly stay with me forever, and our first dance is definitely one of them.

Leading up to our wedding, my then fiance (now husband) and I were really excited about our first dance. We love to dance, but while we excel in enthusiasm and fun, we definitely lack true talent. We wanted our first dance to reflect our fun nature and chose a non-traditional song, Everlasting Love, by Love Affair. Knowing it was lively and the typical first dance slow sway back & forth wouldn't work, I did a little searching on the internet for a place to take a few lessons. As we love dancing, we've taken a few ballroom lessons & not had great experiences. The instructors pushed expensive packages and focused on picky details not allowing us to learn anything we could actually apply on a dance floor, when all we really wanted was a little help not stepping on each other's toes as we try to spin & play on the dance floor. NY Wedding Dance's website intrigued me because their message promoted fun and true enjoyment of dance. We could not have been happier with our decision. Our instructor Leslie was fantastic. She immediately put us at ease with her sense of humor and friendly nature and took time to talk with us to find out exactly what we hoped to gain from our lessons. She listened to our music and taught us a simple 2 step that we continued to build upon, ultimately learning several turns and cuddles and even managed to perfect a dip to end our dance. We looked forward to each lesson as we knew we'd have a great time dancing, laughing and enjoying Leslie's company & expertise. When our wedding day arrived and it came time for our first dance we were both so excited & the moment we began dancing our guests literally started cheering at our "new moves." It was one of our favorite moments from our wedding. Our experience was so great that we plan to go back to try our hand, or should I say feet, at Salsa & Swing. I would recommend NY Wedding Dance to any couple hoping for a fun & special first dance. Thank you so much! Laura & Michael Horan
Pros: Friendly and professional staff, fun environment

Taking lessons at NYweddingdance was such a great experience. We were very nervous about taking lessons but our instructor Leslie put us at ease. Her guidance and sense of humor made each lesson enjoyable. It was so much fun I don't think we realized how good of an instructor she was. When we watch the video we still can't believe how awesome we looked. Absolutely worth it!!

These people are fantastic! Personalized attention and training from people that actually care. Our instructor felt more like a close friend after a few lessons than an instructor. She worked with us to design a dance routine that had everyone talking at our wedding. Even members from our live band were approaching us to say how impressed they were with our dance... and it wasn't that difficult or complex either; just very well planned out. I would recommend NY Wedding Dance to anyone.
Pros: Great, private space. Very personalized attention. Warm environment.
Cons: None. (Really!)

We've been married for two months now, and people are still talking about our first dance and how we did it! Sayings like "that's the best first dance i've ever seen" and "you two should be on 'So You Think You Can Dance' Couples Version" came out of people's mouths. I've taken some dance lessons, and a lot of them feel so impersonal, so when we decided to try Franko at NY Wedding Dance, we felt like we won the jackpot. It's a smaller studio, and everyone there was so welcoming. We came in with the crazy idea to do a latin dance for our wedding, not sure if we could pull it off. We both have rhythm, but definitely were not "dancers". Every week got better and better, we started coming 3 times a week because it was addicting. By the end we had lifts, turns, dips, and we even decided to change into costume for our first dance because our clothes couldn't handle the routine (think dirty dancing meets saturday night fever)... We've now turned our family and friends onto taking lessons for themselves because they saw what a great experience we had. Nathan, Franko and the rest of the staff, THANK YOU!!!!! We couldn't have done it without you!
Pros: Small and Personal, Talented Staff, Easy Scheduling of appts
Cons: nothing...

We can't say enough wonderful things about NY Wedding dance and the experience we had working with Nathan. Our first dance was the highlight of the wedding! We came to Nathan with a challenging song and he created the most exciting first dance! Our guests were blown away! The atmosphere at NY wedding dance is warm and inviting, and Nathan makes you feel comfortable right away! He is not only extremely talented but he has an amazing amount of patience and wonderful personality that made the preparation so much fun. We will definitley be recommending you to all of our friends.
Pros: Private Rooms, Talented Instructors
Cons: none

After deciding that we did not want to embarass ourselves at our wedding, we signed up for dance lessons with NY Wedding Dance. We liked the idea that the lessons would be private and that we would get undivided attention. Nathan created a first dance for us that was fun to learn and looked terrific! He never made us feel like we didn't know what we were doing. (We often didn't!) We actually looked forward to each lesson and are thinking about returning for more. Our wedding dance was one we will never forget and we give Nathan all of the credit!
Pros: Private lessons, Terrific Instructors, Lots of fun
Cons: None

Wow, we had such a great time with Ny Wedding Dance. Not only was it the most fun time we had getting ready for our wedding, it was THE hit of the reception. We kept our dance lessons a secret, so everyone was shocked to see us going for it. I can't believe the cool moves i was able to pull off, thanks you guys. Having our own private studio really helped, it was a much better atmosphere than the other studio we went to check out. We actually read these reviews on Citysearch and that's what helped us make our decision. We would do it again!

NY Wedding Dance was absolutely fantastic. My wife and I were both nervous about the whole first dance, but Franco made the learning process very easy. He taught us the basics and then worked with us as we tried them on our own and taught us more and more as we became more comfortable. In fact, through all the stress of the wedding planning, we actually looked forward to the lessons. The first dance at the wedding itself went incredibly well and we were told how comfortable and natural we looked. I have no reservations in recommending them, especially for beginner dancers like us! I also think it is worthy to note that we took a class at one of the larger studios first and were turned off by the crowded floors and "churn-em-out" feel of the place... can't tell you how happy we are that we decided to switch...
Pros: great value, personalized service, effective
