I drove past this restaurant and thought -- hmm. I was craving thai food so I thought -- why not -- I'll take a look at the menu and see what's there. The items on the menu are complicated, flavorful, and creative. There aren't as many choices as some other Thai restaurants I've been to (not in Pittsburgh) but nonetheless I was quite pleased with my order. The green curry noodles with clam and shrimp has been a special for some time -- but they plan to place it officially on their menu soon. It was very good. Though I do have two suggestions for the dish: less curry sauce and perhaps cook the noodles for 30-60 second less. Otherwise, the dish was perfect. I like green curry because it is so sweet, but so spicy! My boyfriend got the pumpkin curry, which we thought was actually sweet potato or yam -- it wasn't stringy enough to be pumpkin or squash. But that was excellent as well. The chicken that came with the pumpkin curry was of generous portion, moist, and flavored (like satay) itself. Typhoon is now one of our top choices for dinner in Pittsburgh! I may try the pad thai next time. We also got the calamari, but I wasn't a huge fan of it. I prefer my Thai calamari to have a sweet/sour dipping sauce - instead, Typhoon serves it with hot sauce and a sort of mayo-ish green sauce, which to me, had only a very mild taste (and looked like thin guacomole). Wasn't bad, but wasn't exactly how I usually like it. All in all a great restaurant if you are in the mood for something creative, flavorful, and specific.
