Granted, we walked in at 8pm on a friday nite. Service was very slow, mainly due to the lack of staff. But once you caught them, you got what you needed. More important, the food was EXCELLENT! And very inexpensive. We will def be back!

I try to get here just about every week for the lunch buffet, where, as has been noted in other reviews, the food is highly varied and inspired, with numerous offerings that aren't on the regular (but still very good) dinner menu. The fact that it's so reasonably priced ($6.99 on weekdays, $8.99 on weekends with a bit more variety yet) certainly doesn't hurt matters either. The only negative such as it is would be that they don't take American Express. ;)
Pros: Superb food, outstanding service, great value

I've been to Indian restaurants all over the US and Tamarind is up there with the best of them. It's my understanding that the young Indian guys who own and run it are a bunch of IT professionals who pooled their resources to hire a top-quality chef from India and set up this little place. The food is fresh and authentic and when the chef is doing his own thing on the lunch buffet, unrestricted by the good but more conventional dinner menu, it is often down-right inspired. (His pumpkin curry and vegetable biryani are amazing). Don't let the location (out in a strip mall in the Greentree suburbs) keep you from trying this place. It's well worth the trip.
Pros: Excellent, authentic food; clean; prompt, no-nonsense service

Tamarind has an excellent lunch buffet, with fresh, hot food, and a great variety of meat-filled and meatless dishes. In addition, they serve a sweet mango nectar juice that provides a dessert-like treat while dining. The food is perfectly spicy, and if you mix some of the spicier dishes with some of the cool condiments at the beginning of the buffet, it will soften the spice a bit (but I like spice)! The service is excellent. Water is constantly provided, and the price of the buffet is very reasonable for the large selection of foods. I was amazed at how freshly-made everything tasted.
Pros: Exceptional food, excellent price, great service

We had been to this place with a friend who was forced into bachelorhood 'cos of his wife's trip to India and this was the closest (& best) Indian food place from his home. Our friend had advised us that this is one of the good Indian food places in PIT. The parking was convenient, but the place looked crowded (maybe because it is small). I don't remember the names of the dishes we had but we had a veggie and a chicken appetizer and then all of us had one or the different kind of dosas. The ones specified as spicy were really spicy. I was sweating in my scalp. Overall, good food!
Pros: Convenient Parking, Unpretentious, Attentive service
Cons: , Spicy food

Fabulous! We had a fantastic dinner there this past Friday night. Everything was delicious - the food was spicy without being overpowering. Even my boyfriend, who is part Indian, said it was one of the best places he's been to. We'll definitely be making many more return trips!
Pros: Quick service, friendly wait staff, delicious food

Tamarind Savoring India has, in one visit, become one of our favorite Indian restaurants, living up to its evocative name. It is well worth safari-ing into the suburban jungle to savor for yourself.
Pros: Service, Inexpensive, Good Parking
Cons: Spicy
