The bar was kind of a turn off (Seemed even a little TOO divey for my taste) but we got take out cheesesteaks and WOW!!! We are originally from philly...and i can assure you, these are the best you can get in pittsburgh!

Pros: Take out, Good food

Cons: Creepy

2 Star Rating: Below Average

This is a dive with fair-priced, strong drinks. It might be hard to get a seat at the bar. This ain't a place for rich college kids or yuppies and that's what makes it good. It's run-down, dark, there's probably mo-town on the jukebox. Sit down, order a glass of whiskey and start bullshitting with the guy beside you. You probably won't get stabbed.

Pros: It's a run down dive and the people aren't pretentious

Cons: You should be aware of what's going on around you.

I can't see what the other reviewers are complaining about. Mitchell's is a warm cozy place to have a reasonably price drink. Being a white male, I've never felt anything but welcome by the predominantly black clientele in the six years I've been going there, and usually end up staying longer than I intended to when I walked in. You will find the occasional wackadoo, but you'll have that anywhere. I guess it all depends on your mindset, expectations, etc.

Pros: People and atmosphere

Cons: It could be better kept up

I left Pgh 10 years ago, and this was a fun ecclectic bar crowd. Now its totally shady!!!! As a white man...everyone in this place stared me up and down. I aint never goin back. Dean the owner muct have sold it, cause the crowd got all rough in there. If he stills owns it, shame on him. Someone chased the college crowd out, and swept the hoodlems in!!

Pros: location

Cons: a bad bad druggie crowd

boy this place went downhill! it used to be a fun college spot. i had a beer there the other day and the mens toilet was closed a sign read "due to vandalism"! the place was filthy. then some bearded mentally distraught bum rolled in the front door walking in backwards. he smelled like a sewer, he was covered in mud and his shoes were reduced to ripped string on his raw heels. he plopped down next to me and threw some change on the bar and was served a Coors Light. i couldnt beleive they let him stay. the owner must live out of state because he clearly dont care no more..

Pros: coke

Cons: coke

On the plus side, the beer is cheap, and there can sometimes be a good mix of clientele. But there can sometimes be a pretty rough crowd, too- be careful who you look at. Some of the people working there are cool. It is way better than Chief's. Still looking for that great dive bar, now that Duke's on S. Millvale closed (ahh, Duke's- a tough crowd, but a great vibe, good jukebox, cheap beer, and nice mix of students, hipsters, and locals).

Pros: cheap

Cons: rough crowd

this is a den of iniquity. a total dump. drunks and drugged out losers. not worth checking out. it's a step up from Chief's but that doesnt say much. it has a rough crowd in there at night.

Pros: 0

Cons: everything
