I don't know. I've never had Mexican food from other states, nor have I had authentic Mexican. Nonetheless, I think Veracruz is an amazing place to eat in the Oakland area. I get the grande-sized steak quesadilla and I've thoroughly enjoyed it every time. The portions are respectable, especially given the cheap prices. What makes it more incredible is that fact that they continue to offer this despite the kind of money run-of-the-mill Qdoba is making across the street. You can enjoy whatever you order with a slew of hot and mild sauces and even cool down with an authentic Mexican beverage (or pop, should you want that). To top it all off, the restaurant has two TVs with true Mexican programming. Ok, so I don't understand Spanish, and I'm certainly not interested in Soap Operas, but I think it really adds to the experience. If you're in the Oakland area looking for a cheap, delicious bite, then I would highly recommend Veracruz.
Pros: Cheap; Quick; Excellent Taste (to me, at least)
Cons: It's not open 24/7/365
