EVERYTHING IS BETTER IN THE BURGH

by sneek

From the moment you walk in you cant stop smiling ,The thing that made it the best was the workers they have fun thelittle guy on the grill was getting crushed and singing and dancing, They joke with you at the counter and make you really feel like a regular.Althogh it was packed my Food was quick delicious and the price for the area was not at all unreasonabl. You can watch them prepare your food from start to finish. The chilli cheese fries are to die for. They have a steak called THE YINZER which is loaded with onions, green pepper, bannana peppers, mushroom, and toped with lettuce and tomatos. They even offered to wrap what i dont finish most places hand you a box.The decor of the place is relax, trully a great spot to eat.Way to bring a philly favorite to the burgh.

  • Pros: The service was the best around not like other places,
  • Cons: There arenot more of these around

It is like being in Philly but better since you aren't!!

by tasteedelight

This place has THE BEST cheesesteaks. They have just the right amount of grease. The sandwiches are packed with meat and cheese and fried onions. You get to choose your cheese. Don't pass up on the cheese fries!!! The place has a great ambiance - relaxed and cool.

Love it!!

by sunshine001

I have to say I was very impressed with Southside Steaks! The decor is very cool and in the summer, they open the side doors so it's almost like eating in a sidewalk cafe!! The first time I was there, I had a cheesesteak and I am not a big cheesesteak eater, however....these were fantastic!! The second time I went, I had a buffalo chicken salad. It was hard to choose which salad I wanted as there were so many selections that sounded good! The salad was great! Very big and lots of buffalo chicken and fries in it! They also serve beer now too! This place is great and I highly recommend it!

  • Pros: Excellent food and great decor.

Only Philly I like in Pittsburgh

by manda07

Southside Steaks has now become my #1 place to eat after a long night of drinking on the Southside. Quicker service then that other sandwich place in the Southside. Open late for those late night munchies. Having been to Philly to enjoy and original Philly Cheese Steak, this place beats them all. Not only that, but I was at this years Cheesesteak eating competition and had a blast hanging out. They gave away great prizes to the winners and observers and the crowd was in continous laughter at the madness. From what I here this summer they will start serving beer and I can just hang out all night and enjoy a cheesesteak and some nice cold beer.

  • Pros: Good Price Great Food, Free parking, Directly on Carson

Noway a Philly steak!!!

by hynds_57

What a let down. I was excited to FINALLY get a cheesesteak in Pittsburgh and ended up at Southside Steaks. These are nothing like Philly Cheesesteaks! First of all, Philly does not use the fake buttered flavored oil that Southside Steaks uses in its cheesesteaks. It was oozing out of my cheesesteak and had a fake flavor to it. The steak was too thick (not properly chopped up and separated) and the onions were not cooked enough. AND, there was not enough steak in it at all. Also, a real Philly cheesesteak also uses white american cheese, melted throughout and not only cheez whiz like everything thinks! I have to give them one compliment though - the roll was not bad, somewhat close to the real thing. Maybe a little too thick though.

I would go back if they learned how to make them like the real thing.

  • Pros: Open eating area

At Last!

by monpere

At last there is a late-night place in Western Pa. worth a drive. Open until 3 AM Friday and Saturday, they serve great Philly cheesesteaks and wonderful fries. And the ceiling consists of old doors!

  • Pros: Very pretty, clean, good food

They are open late!!

by squissey

This place is finally the only place in Pittsburgh to get a great philly steak. The only thing different from Philly is that they use much better steak! The fresh cut fries are amazing and they are open late! What more can you ask! 3 A.M. on the weekends and midnight on the weekdays. They are higher priced than some others, but the quality makes it well worth it!!

  • Pros: Cheez Whiz!!!!, great outdoor seating, Great food!

Not for late night.

by gualtierianthony

I did not know that they were open late. Every time I go bu after 10:00 it seems that they are closed. I think that they would do much better if they were open 23-7 or at least till 4:00 a.m. to capitalize on the bar crowd.

  • Pros: Cool De core, Good Menu
  • Cons: , Over Priced

FINALLY!!!!!!

by burghboy

Having had the real thing in Philadelphia, I have always wanted a true philly steak here in the Burgh.

Southside Steaks has completely satiated my craving for an authentic steak!

The true Philly way of ordering is getting it "one Whiz wit" that means One with onions and cheez whiz. The whiz is where it's at!

Kudos to Southside Steaks for bringing authentic steaks to the 'burgh!!!!!!

  • Pros: Fresh Ribeye!!, funky decor, Great Fries
