The Tango Cafe is indeed one of the bright spots in Squirrel Hill. It's not corporate or mainstream (Starbucks) or ultra-hip (61c). It's completely unassuming and the staff and customers seem happy to be there. There are two nooks in the front of the cafe, next to the front windows, that are perfect for someone waiting for a friend to walk down the sidewalk or for an English teacher grading papers. There are round-table Spanish lessons/conversations, an upright piano against one wall, and the occasional musical performance. I've even seen couples pushing the tables to one side in order to dance. Folks, the name of the cafe is warranted. You all will note that I haven't even mentioned the coffee or the pastries, which are fine indeed. I just wish they were open later than 10 pm on weeknights. --chuckletrousers
Pros: Great for meeting a few friends before the movie at the Squirrel Hill cinema
Cons: Busy traffic outside. Not enough room on the sidewalk for tables and chairs, though they are set outside in the summer.

If you enjoy a good espresso, this is the best in town. Beats Prima Espresso. And they use real mugs! That always gets bonus points in my book. Everything in here just screams yummy and is the opposite of mass produced items commonly found at Starbucks and company.

As a beginning Spanish student I found the tertulia very helpful. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the people are friendly, and food and beverages very tasty.

The Tango Cafe is one of my favorite hangouts. The atmosphere is warm, the food is great, and there are often interesting things going on. Highly recommended!
Pros: Atmosphere, Inexpensive, Pastries
