Good Authentic Crepes

by kniki217

The chef is from france. He used to have a street cart in france. These are some amazing and authentic crepes. To the people that complain that he's rude...it's because he can't stand you lazy, fat, rude americans.

  • Pros: authentic, cheap
  • Cons: limited hours

Excellent Food; Good Veggie Options

by jkinpitt

I work on Craig Street and eat at that location at least once a week. I have never had a problem with the rudeness others described--although, I also have no tolerance for people who can't follow simple instructions. It's a small location and the food is in demand, so I think the staff does the best job they can to get everyone their food quickly. The staff has been attentive every time I've eaten there.

The crepes are fabulous. I'm a vegetarian, and I've only had the savory crepes. The mixed veggie crepe with bechamel sauce is fabulous. Savory crepes come with a side salad of mixed greens, oranges, and a light champagne vinagraitte. It's a filling and delicious meal for just $7.

My only advice is to go early or later. it's busiest right around noon.

  • Pros: Delicious. Many vegetarian options.
  • Cons: Go early. Seats fill quickly.

Do not bring 3 or more people in your party

by heathrs9

Husband and I went there for the first time a few weeks back. I had the salmon crepe; he the egg & cheese crepe. Both were delicious and the place was only slightly busy since it was between the breakfast & lunch rush. My sister and her fiance came in from San Fran; figured we would show them a nice place and have some great food. Forgot they only took cash. Headed to an ATM while sister and fiance looked at the menu while letting people step in front of them in line because 1) there were no free tables for a party of 4 and 2) they were waiting on us. We got there & sent one of our party to the register to order.

There is no where to stand out of the way of anything; a two-top opened up and that is where we sat & stood while keeping our eyes peeled for another table. A staff member rudely told us we needed to be in line and not at the table. We quickly pointed out that our friend was indeed in line (my sister wanted to point out that they let about 5 couples in front of them while they waited) and then the staff member told us we were not allowed to sit until we ordered. He then proceeded to stare at us until we moved; unfortunately there was no places to stand and wait. Raining outside - so that was certainly not an option.

We left - sadly disappointed and surely never to return again.

  • Pros: food is tasty
  • Cons: atmosphere, rude staff, cash only, too few tables

My favorite place to eat...

by eplabnista

Crepes is a great place for a hundred reasons. Active, pleasing environment, very consistent high quality of food and service. Would like better advertising of the "table acquisition" process so that people understood to place orders before sitting.

  • Pros: Remarkably consistent service and food quality
  • Cons: Closed mondays, late start time (9:00 - 10:00)

C'est horrible!

by johnnyholliday15

I recently went to Crepes Parisiennes on Craig Steet with a group of friends, and needless to say it was a terrible experience. First of all, it took us over 15 minutes to get to the register and order our crepes. The crepe lady was really unfriendly and seemed to give me an attitude for suggesting a special order. After we finally placed our orders, we sat down and waited for our food. Even though I SPECIFICALLY made instructions not to put anything extra on my crepe, it was slathered in sour cream, chives, and lemon. Did I order a baked potato or something? To cut a long story short, I will not be going back to this restaurant anytime soon and I encourage everyone else to pass on Crepes Parisiennes.

  • Pros: Decent food, izzy soda
  • Cons: Terrible service, bad management,

Crepe Fascist & His Dungeon from SAW

by Skyhawk4584

Over-priced greasy food, pretentious environment and the owner is obnoxious.

I really enjoyed coming here until this last summer when things began to take a dive. The quality of the food went way down - the eggs in one of their signature dishes were spongey, cold and clammy on a regular basis and they began to drown everything in (olive?) oil to cover for it.

Due to the dungeon-from-SAW-like size of the restaurant and the fact they do not take reservations, the staff has taken to the irritating habit of ushering people out the door if they are not eating fast enough. As a result you tend to get a little paranoid if you aren't chewing at regulation speed (15 mins). They also reassign where people sit, in mid-meal, in order to accomodate more people (musical chairs).

The food is way over-priced for the amount of actual food & inedible shrubbery you receive and the non-college aged staff is outrageously snobbish. Should you dare make any special dietary requests on a given crepe the owner/chef/manager will snap back about departing from the listed ingredients. When I was there last they didn't even tolerate my inquiry about whether they use peanut oil (I'm allergic).

The owner/manager is the balding Soup-Nazi of crepes; he freely barks at you if you confuse his Shadyside restaurant with his Oakland restaurant and he seems to get agitated if you do not overly compliment his food.

Suggestion: There really aren't any crepe or french cuisine places in Shadyside but Pamela's is right down the street - it is just as greasy and a bit difficult to get in, but the prices match up to the food better and the staff is far more professional.

  • Pros: They serve crepes, and nearly nobody in the area does
  • Cons: Their crepes aren't good, the ambiance is prison-like, the staff is in a hurry to get you to leave and the owner is outrageous

Delicious crepes!!!!

by moonlounger

The food here is wonderful. The best I ever had! Every Saturday morning this is what I crave! I recommend the Mixed Vegetable, add an egg, with Soytang and Creme Fraiche. They get very particular about seating, because they want to be fair to their customers who wait in line. They have no issue finding a seat though for anyone older, or who needs to sit while they wait. Just ask!!! If you treat them with respect they will do the same to you. It gets very busy, and it's such a small space that it's necessary for rules such as, "do not take or hold a table until you order." I love it, and it's my favorite place in Pittsburgh! Also recommend the Cafe Au Lait, and Hot Chocolate (best in Pittsburgh, made from real chocolate chips).

  • Pros: Everything
  • Cons: Nothing

Crepes Parisiennes One of the Best Creperie Restaurants I have ever been to

by diamond520girl

This was my first time at this restaurant. We arrived when the restaurant opened. The decor was very french to me. You have to stand in line to place your order. I ordered a breakfast crepe and a dessert crepe. They were wonderful tasting. The breakfast crepe was cooked on top after being folded creating a stiffer with more holding power, where you can pick it up and eat it. The dessert crepe (apricot my favorite) is softer and needs to be eaten off a plate but there was whipped cream on it! The crepes are large in size so one of each was enough. Actually my friend and I split the breakfast crepe and each had our own dessert crepe. The coffee was outstanding, and hot! I won't drink coffee unless it is well brewed. (To me a coffee must not be weak, cold or lack flavor.) Since good coffee is a must for me, (or I brew it myself with an aeropress), I found myself the happiest of customers. I even went up to the owner and chated with the owner himself about our first time visit.. I marked this place as a favorite on my GPS, so that the next time I am in PIttsburgh, I can definitely come to this restaurant!!!

  • Pros: Situated in the heart of an upscale shopping district
  • Cons: Was initially worried about parking, Later in the day might be a problem

Best Crepes in the City

by AmericainFrancais

Crepes Parisiennes is the best place to get crepes in the city. The food is spot on French cuisine and the perfect place to go if your looking for an afternoon repas. However one thing that you must realize is that this is a truly "French" establishment. The customer service is not the same as a TGIF or another American establishment such as that. So therefore, like any French cafe or restaurant, you are in the proprietors place of business and must follow the proper etiquette. If you think you can walk in and be the most important person in the restaurant simply because you are a customer, then you are wrong. Be patient and wait. I know that this is a hard concept for American society to grasp but it is "la vie francaise". So if you can be open minded to a truly French experience and you love crepes then you will adore this hidden gem of French Cuisine.

  • Pros: Best Crepes, French Ambience, Good Parking
  • Cons: French Service, French Hours

Bad customer service

by lenuta

This review is for the Craig Street location.

The crepes are good but there are no regular hours at this location. The post on the door says that they open at "10ish" and you should not be surprised if at 3:30pm you are told that they decided to close even if the posted closing time is 4pm. The staff is not welcoming and almost impolite.
