Great place for live bands

by newtopgh

Monday nights are a unique open-ish mic forum. Great if you are looking to have a rough Tuesday morning because no matter how hard you try, you end up there until last call. The musicians are engaging and entertaining and the crowd is a broad range of ages.

  • Pros: Monday Nights
  • Cons: Tuesday Mornings

Not happy with them at all....change concert at last minute

by Gugi

I have read the reviews on Club Cafe and sometimes I wonder if we've been to the same place.

I find the place very crowded and I had to stand for over two hours, not dance, not walk, just stand to listen to someone.

I had tickets for the Carrie Newcomer concert for tomorrow (4/10/08). I received a notice this morning that the concert had changed and that two other acts had been added to the bill. The show was to start at 7:30 pm. With two opening acts, that means Carrie probably would not perform until at least 9:15. if I had to stand I would be standing for an hour and 45 minutes before the act I paid to see would come one. That may be fine for some people, but when you need to be up by 5 am (some of us are just poor working stiffs.) it presents an uncomfortable situation. What upsets me is I've been looking forward to this concert since January and now, I'm not going.

I also find the atmosphere of Club Cafe to be a bit dark and dingy. It is not a concert venue. It reminds me more of an old smoky blues club.

From time to time, Club Cafe will bring a decent act; however, I won't be there.

Surprisingly nice inside

by illyrias

Don't let the fact that you can't see inside the windows of this club fool you. Once inside for a show, you might as well be in NYC - good drinks, menu, and atmosphere. Fortunately, the prices don't quite reach NYC levels though they are (unsurprisingly) on the high side with no specials during shows.

I was concerned about heading out there for a concert but now I can't wait to go back for another.

  • Pros: nice atmosphere, good concerts

Good things come in small packages

by robinbolea

This intimate club is a great place to see some talented performers- both local and national. The acoustics and the lighting are pleasant, however the wine selection is incredibly limited. Best advice: Show up early to get a seat!

  • Pros: Small (intimate setting)
  • Cons: Small (overly crowded); poor wine selection

High style has returned to the South Side with this chic music club.

by Contributor

The Scene
With its clean tile and tasteful neon, the building's exterior is nearly as intoxicating as the drinks inside. The interior is a cozy mix of plush, roomy booths and a bright showcase bar. Club Cafe patrons, both young and middle-aged, are all well-dressed and appreciative of a more formal bar experience.

The Draw
Long known for showcasing great music--and closing its doors unexpectedly--the bar is again filled with the sounds of jazz, blues, swing and rock, as well as the crash of cocktail shakers and clinks of toasting martini glasses. On performance nights, arrive early to secure a coveted booth. The subtle lighting and original 1940s bar invite you to try cosmopolitans, gimlets, Aviations and other drinks normally reserved for paper-thin models at post-Oscar parties.

Great Live Music Venue, Until Late Night

by panasiukm

This Venue is the absolute best place to see a show. The sound system is excellent! The sightliners are excellent, however, it only holds about 100-120 people maximum. Bar and Wait staff are very helpful and friendly. Menu is small, but tasty. Would love to see show bigger name bands play this small room even if the price of tickets is higher. Only downfall is band curfews for disco tech dancing late night on a carpeted floor. Although, small crowds late night may eliminate this curfew.

  • Pros: Excellent Sound, Friendly Staff, Warm Surroundings
  • Cons: Techno Dancing, Band Curfews, Expensive Drinks
