Diners are back in vogue, but this one is an original.

The Scene
There are three criteria for judging diners: breakfast, hot sandwiches with gravy, and pie. Dick's grades an "A" in all three.
Diner Standards
Breakfasts are served with large portions of home fries and eggs are cooked as ordered. Pancakes and French toast are also good. The hot sandwiches (including meatloaf) are sandwiched in "balloon bread" (I suggest you order rye instead) and served with home fries, mashed potatoes or fries, and covered with the appropriate gravy.
Sweet Tooth
As for pies, Dick's is well known in the area. There are usually at least 10 varieties available, including the exceptional Boston cream. You can't make a bad choice here.
