Butler >Hickory Woods Eating Room
Bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad disgusting. This place went down hill in a landslide. The service is poor and the food was terrible. Honestly are you guys serious? I would feed this garbage to my dog. Grease in the apples, mush crab cakes and I mean greasy bread and fake crab meat, frozen veg., nasty bread, check please. I'm sorry but this place used to serve fine food and now has become the worst place in Butler. Just a note to the owner the grounds were trashed and falling apart: the food is disgusting; just stop and close down. Don't punish innocent customers any more.
Terrible service, Poor food, Nasty waitstaff.
I've been to this place a few times, before it was owned by the current owner and more recently. Though it's decorated well, that can't make up for the poor, rude service we've received on several occasions, nor the poor food.
When ordering, though you can make substitutions for some sandwiches (i.e. changing a type of cheese or adding pickle instead of lettuce), the waitress told us (in a mantra tone over and over) "you can leave off something but you can't substitute or add." Fine, we understand we can't add something, but if they're not pre-made and we're not adding to cost but merely substituting, AND you allow substitutions on some sandwiches, why is is such a d*** big deal to substitute on others. Mostly it was the way she handled it, with talking over us and continuing to repeat her mantra, rather than politely answering our question.
Then when the order arrived, the sandwiches were luke warm at best (we were told they were hot sandwiches), and the order was incorrect. We didn't bother to ask to have the order fixed or heated, knowing the response we'd gotten earlier with ordering.
It took over 45-50 minutes to get our food, too long for a business lunch, when you only have an hour anyway. This doesn't change no matter if they're not busy or not. We were in there one time when there was only one other table during lunch (must be saying something about the food or the service), and they still couldn't manage to make the food any faster, and it was just sandwiches - and they were lukewarm. The food was not great either. Overdone meat. Wrong bread type from what was ordered. So WHAT are they DOING in the kitchen?!!
Then we went to leave and the waitress was behind the cash register at the front, and we were standing there in front of her with our receipt and money in hand. Rather than ringing us out, she said "Just wait." And she proceeded to go to the two other tables to see what they needed, then go into the kitchen and then bring out drinks. Fine, but why couldn't she just have rung us out when she was behind the cash register when we were standing there, rather than walking away from us? Rude. Just plain rude. I think she needs an education in customer service.
We will not be going to this place any longer.
Horrible. Service was horrible, food was gressy. Took 45 min. to get our food. Owner was nasty when we called later that night
Love this Place!.
We love this place! (And we don't know the owners). We manage to get here 3 or 4 times a year, and always love the food. The specials are fun and everything is always very very good.
If you are looking to have a fast food type experience, this is not the place. If you like to have your meal served at a gracious speed, with time allows to sip your coffee, deight in your appetizer and enjoy the experience of a meal out, you can't find a better place.
Breakfast and brunch are absolutely wonderful.
Never a bad experience!.
My husband and I have eaten here several times
and never had a bad experience. Always great food and
friendly service. The deserts are excellent and truly taste as if grandma is in the kitchen. The prices are a little more than your typical family restaurant but still fairly reasonable and worth every penny! Nice atmosphere.
We met friends here for breakfast at Hickory Woods restaurant (off of rout 422 in Butler PA). Upon entry, we noticed an odd odor that would remind you of a backed up sewer line. We were seated promptly, but waited 20 minutes before our order was taken, (I could understand if they were busy; however there were only two other tables occupied when we arrived). Our party of 4 waited another 45 minutes before our breakfast was served. When our food finally arrived, our order was not correct. We never received refills on our beverages, and were never asked if our meals were ok. The owner stood at the table across from us, talking to other patrons, who were obviously friends the entire time we were there. He was completely oblivious to the poor service that was taking place, and would find out later that he did not even care. When we left, I explained to him that we were not happy with our service, how long we had to wait and that we did not even get what we ordered. He abruptly told me that he runs a great restaurant and will not have someone tell him any differently! No apologies, only a completely arrogant response. We will never go back to this horrible place, and strongly recommend another choice for your dining experience. Anyone who would rate this restaurant well is obviously friends of the owner, or the owner himself.
If I could give less than a one star rating, I would!

Best Home Style Cooking at Moderate Prices. The restaurant has a classic old style that is complemented by the friendly waitresses and cleanliness. The food is homestyle and is always great. Homemade chips are a real treat. Bathrooms are especially clean and that is reflection on the restaurant itself. I have made it a point to stop for lunch or dinner at this great place to eat.
