too many old people, gym caters to them.
I just quit after two years. The club has its pluses, like it is affordable (around 45 bucks),its clean, is 24 hours on weekdays, and the wait time for machines is not too horrible.
The bad, and why I quit, is that it is very older in its clientele. Old people are people too, but the place is dominated by them. If you are young or a professional and are looking for a cool social place and to look at some pretty girls (or guys if your a girl) this place IS NOT FOR YOU. If you are 40, you are the youngest person there.
Just being full of older people would not be bad in and of itself, but alot of them are rude, selfish, and mean. I have seen them constantly try to talk to younger girls who look annoyed at best. The dominate the pool which makes anyone else wanting to use it for, you know, exercise impossible. The hog machines and use them as stools for socializing.
Also, they have bizarre rules. Instead of first come first serve, you have to "sign up" for individual machines. If you forget or see no one else using them even late in the evening, look out. I have been thrown off cardio machines by old guys who signed up after they saw me on a treadmill, claiming "its there favorite one" despite ten other ones being unoccupied. Also, people sign up then don't use them, which means you can see eight empty cardio machines and no one can use them because someone signed up, and if they pop up 15 minutes later, management will side with them.
The staff is older and also not very friendly. They side with their elderly patrons every time and it is a constant complaint among the few younger members they have. Perhaps because they are next to a large retirement community and get alot of their business there. There is no juice bar, no activities, just old foogies. If you are elderly or maybe a serious weight lifter who is there to use the free weights only, maybe this place is for you.

Why Would They Allow This!.
I just recently joined the club, and I totally agree with the Truth and RichardBGraham comments. The club is clean and has great team exercises, however there are so many rules; one of them is to
sign up for the cardio machines before use (Rule 1). The problem with this is that sometime members sign up to use the machines and they don’t use them, thus members that want to use a machine can not. No First Come First Serve.
It appears the management does not speak against bullies and discrimination.
One early Saturday morning, I got to the club early and wanted to try the aerobic class that just started, I had my boots on with my workout clothes and my tennis shoes in the bag since members are not allowed to wear their workout shoes outside (Rule 2). I went straight into the aerobic class thinking I could just change my shoes and don’t miss a couple minutes of fun.
While I was changing into my workout shoes, I got a surprise of my life. The instructor literally came from the front to the back of the room, grabbed my bag and shoe and THROW ME OUT of the room while yelling over the microphone speaker not to bring my personal stuff to the exercise room (Rule 3).
There were staff members at the front desk watching the incident, and nobody said anything.
And oh, I forgot to mention that this rule (Rule 3) wasn't posted or displayed anywhere. You would think it will help new members to know what the unbreakable rules are before they are harassed.
I went to the locker room to put my personal stuff and cried a little, then went back to the front desk to share my frustration with the staff members, and a lady who I later found out to be the manager said that the instructor is always harsh, and she doesn’t like it when people bring stuff to her class, and the club supports this.
I felt like she is indirectly telling me that the club doesn’t care if you are bullied. More importantly, I felt so humiliated and discriminated on because of my brown skin or black.
I have witnessed the same situation where people of opposite skin color brought their personal things to a class and no one raises an eyebrow and this includes instructors.
I approached the front desk once again after my workout to ask about the procedure to report this incident so that I can get a closure.
The lady who was at the front desk at this time called the Manager who happens to be one of the ladies who witnessed the incident, and was also one of the staff members I earlier shared my frustration with (who couldn’t help). This time, she told me that she talked with the instructor, and that the instructor apologized to her. Well, for a minute, I got a little confused because an apology should be coming to me, and not to the club manager or the club.
Moreover, she mentioned that the instructor’s class is hard, the instructor is Harsh… and so forth. I felt like she was giving me reasons to stay away from this instructor’s class because of the reasons known to herself or the club.

I No Longer Feel Safe There. At first, I like going to Club Julian. However, the Management WAAAYYYY over-sold memberships. It is far too crowded. Also, Management sold memberships indiscriminately and irresponsibly; you will find members who clearly should not be in a Health Club. Mainly, you find too many Elderly people clearly entering Dementia on the Track or working Nautilus Equipment – and that is scary! Elderly use equipment as chairs, block the Track, and say bizarre and inappropriate comments to anyone. I was once running the Track – an Elderly Man grabbed me, almost knocking me over, and mumbled “You’re wearing your pajamas – ha ha” (I was in a conventional track suit). Another time, a very old man having trouble undressing suddenly tried to start a fist-fight with me – actually hit me – because he thought I was “too close to his locker”. I reported the assault to Management; nothing was done. Even though I have eight months left on my year’s membership I will not return – I do not feel physically safe there. …
My place to unwind. Four years ago, I searched for a health club that had a pool and spa services along with weight and cardio training. Club Julian fit my needs and the flexible hours helped ensure my consistent use. As a health care professional, I use the club to unwind after a hectic 12 hour shift, and for sharing time with my 68 year-old father who meets me there for our gym routine. My wife and son (who will be playing college football) are also members and each benefit from the complimentary personal training. …
Never felt better than with Club Julian.
I love that Club Julian offers personal training at no extra charge with a membership. In a year, I lost 65 pounds and over 30 inches overall and my BMI is normal. And, I have been able to maintain
my current weight for the last 6 months. I feel so much better and was able to get off all of my blood pressure meds - and my cholesterol is now in a normal range. At 54, I truly have never felt better and know this is a lifestyle I can definitely live with. I intend to continue with the personal training program and look forward to my Club Julian workouts.
