Better places.
We were both very excited about joining this gym as it is a short drive from our home.
The first week we were members my locker was broken (along with many others who also had combination locks).
The manager stated he would contact corporate to see if anything could be done about our lost items (nothing will be coming of this). While it is posted they are not responsible for such, one would think with surveillance camera's and a policy of checking people into their systems that security might be good enough that theft would be exceedingly rare, especially when one bothers to lock their belongings up.
One extremely convenient coincidence for our thief is that the computers to scan people in just happened to be down at the same time as they made their appearance.
I was a member of Planet Fitness in Edgewood for previous year, no issues what so ever.
While I want to support local businesses, I would highly recommend people avoid this one.
Just a comment.
Bally's is ok. Yes, it is old, yes it needs updated...and yes occasionally they don't have paper towels in the nearest dispenser.
I've been a member for about 6 months now, and have never NOT been able to find disinfectant. Yes - it may not be at the nearest dispenser - so if that's the case - I just go visit another one (they aren't that far away). As for the staff being rude...i've never had this problem. When I was thinking of joining - I asked for a tour and they were more than happy to give me one. They are fairly nice...although I'm fine with a simple hi...I don't need to talk to them beyond that - so maybe that's why. And as for the stealing - never had this problem because I bought a combination lock and lock my stuff up every time I go.
So all in all, short of the fact that it's old...and they could add some more equipment...it's really not that bad.
Rude Employees/and thieves(by staff. I have been a member here for a few months now! The manager(muscati) is EXTREMLEY rude and has no concept of being a good manager...They employess hesitate to even speak when u come in and it is almost a crime to ask staff for help..I have had several items stolen at night 11pm when I was the last person in the ladies locker room. And was there in the am for opening and my belongings were gone..When brought to the manager's attention he actually got rude and cared not to address the issue at all...I WILL NOT join again..and I believe clientle will decline at this rate, especially with all the updated competing gyms in the area...Get it together Bally's shame on you guys......Sorry but the truth is just that.......
Terrible business. Rude customer service, bad attitude, not much equipment
Good place if u want to use just weights and a treadmill. I have been a member here for 14 yrs and overall it has not chg'd much. They have updated the equipment. Classes are boring most are step classes. They just added spinning. The one reg aerobics class is a -10. The routine has not changed much since I started, just the music. The staff are getting better but still would not expect much when asking more than just a basic question. One guy was completely rude but I don't think he works there anymore. He would bring his training clients in the aerobic room while a class was in session which was disruptive. I ask him could he go somewhere else (they actually have an area just for the trainers). He told me I was making a scene in front of his client & refused to leave till he was done. Next time I went back he was not there. Crime is not as bad as the other person stated & I don't blve the car thefts are being done by members. It has decreased since they installed the cameras in the parking lot yrs ago. I blve mgmt was partially to blame because I had reported to mgmt suspicious activity b4 they installed the cameras and he looked at me & did not say anything or call anyone. Lo and behold later that day someone broke into someones car. The car thefts seemed to increase when the bus service was extended to the plaza. I do think some members steal frm lockers but many people don't lock their items up either -but this happens at any gym.
This budget gym trims the fat off its patrons at streamlined facilities..
The Scene
Most Ballys stick to the basics for their design. Televisions broadcast silently above multiple rows of cardio machines; mirrored walls act as the primary decorative components. But thanks to high-energy television ads and low-impact membership premiums, this national fitness chain has steadily attracted a clientele bent on saving money while losing weight or gaining muscle.
The Workout
Using fairly standard strength-training equipment and/or racks well-stocked with free weights, the best of the trainers here, who are classified at four different levels, can be as skillful as those found at costlier gyms. For group classes, signature exercise options include Spinning and Powerflex, as well as a number of patented routines inspired by Tae Kwon Do.
Dirty/Unfriendly Staff/Crime. I have belonged here for about 8 months and I am sad to say, I have another 2 years in my contract. The rates are good, thats it. There is TONS of crime here. People have had their keys stolen only to find out that other people that belong there go out and take stuff out of your car. The place is DIRTY. I'm talking TOTAL filth. Most of the time there are no paper towels to clean off the equipment when you use it and no disinfectant. I dont think the pool has ever been cleaned, there are giant clumps of hair floating around in it. The staff is rude. They dont make an effort to say hello to anyone and the manager's priority is getting the 15 year old workers there to think that she is cool. I have never seen so many out of shape people WORK in a gym. Typically the marketing strategy of a gym is to get people to join based on the premise that they will LOOK GOOD, not like the overweight and flabby "trainers". When the "train" you, they sit you on a machine and read the instructions to you...thanks but i can read myself. This is not a place to join if you are serious about getting in or staying in shape.
