Where instruction, exhibition, and performance come together.. The Skinny
Located in the middle of the Manchester industrial section of town across from the UPS shipping terminal, the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild appears somewhat isolated, but is in fact integral to the city's cultural scene, serving several important and distinct functions. For one thing, it's a school and training center which provides an opportunity for the city's disadvantaged youths to gain experience in the arts, such as ceramics, photography and sculpture.

The Exhibits
The works of both students and international artists are displayed in the main gallery and in MCG's satellite gallery downtown. The other driving force at MCG is the promotion of jazz as music and culture. The facility's jazz concert series is respected nationwide and features a variety of artists from such legends as Max Roach to up-and-comers like Terrence Blanchard. Some have made impressive recordings in the pristine auditorium's high-tech studio. MCG is the number-one destination for jazz fans in the Pittsburgh area, and concerts here always end up in several of the year-end lists for best concerts.
