Editorial Review for Eons – by David C. Madden
The Scene
While you may be initially deterred by the narrow aisles that twist and turn all over, the fact that Eons is jam-packed with merchandise quickly dispels all worry. Look up, look down. There's clothing and accessories everywhere. Indie college kids looking to break away from their Abercrombied peers, Shadyside scenesters in the know, and older folks looking to reminisce frequent this place.
The Goods
Dressing up like your grandparents is one way to describe this place. Not only will you find authentic vintage dresses and suits from the first half of the 20th century, you'll find the perfect accessories to go alongside: eyeglasses, heels and pillbox hats of velvet and lace. For the fellas, don't miss the tuxedo jackets with tails toward the back of the store.

Insider Tips
What You'll SpendDepending on how far back in clothing time you want to travel, anywhere from $10 to $175.
HintHead to the far back wall for tucked away essentials. Above the row of dresses sit dozens of quality black leather boots. Above these are crates of old denim, bustiers and men's swimsuits.

when I was in grad school (mid-90s) there was an employee who was fabulous, helpful, knew stock really well and would go above and beyond to help. (plus, she was hot. sometimes stopped in to buy stuff just 2c her. hey kristine!) Anyway, please keep in mind that a small shop with small # of staff has to spread selves out. Be nice to them and, if you have a very specific target item, maybe even call ahead to give heads-up that you're looking for, say, a man's powder blue tux in whatever your size is. Maybe they have it tucked away somewhere and can pull it for you. But if you show-up on a Sat afternoon when it is busy busy busy, the 1-2 sales staff won't be able to give you that level of service. not to malign salvation army but never ever say salvation army in the same breath with Eons- they are not the same. salvation army is a "thrift" store= free castoffs being resold. good place to go if your primary concern is cheap...maybe that halloween costume that you don't want to pay a lot for since you're only going to wear it once. Eons is a vintage store: high quality antique clothing, many one-of-a-kind. Owner has discriminating taste for style and quality: there is no junk. Many items are in original packaging/original tags and have never been worn even though they are 40+ years old. This a place for fashionistas. Eons is the shop to find a 1930's Bridal gown in mint condition or a cocktail dress that Jackie-O would have loved. then there are Club clothes, club kids, need I say more? Plus, Clothes are dry-cleaned before being offered on the sales floor. Eons is fun and worth every penny.
Pros: one-of-a kind vintage fashions
Cons: we miss that cute little lesbian kristine

Love this place! It can be a little pricey, especially if you are more into Salvation Army or Goodwill, but WORTH it. If you are seriously looking for an outfit to wear TONIGHT this is it!! You can get the outfit, shoes, jewelry, etc. etc. But if you are a 'mall' person this isn't the place for you. I wouldn't say that the people that work there are going to go out of their way for you, because they aren't. But, if you know what you are looking for and are willing to sift through a few things- do it by all means. Then you can visit the great tapas bar down the street~~~
Pros: Great selection
Cons: Too bad there isn't more customer service...
