Editorial Review for Club Havana – by Natalie Rieland
The Scene
The opaque glass bar, the plush sage- and plum-colored decor and the fantastic martini selection are reminiscent of the 1940s. It's the kind of place where women and men still get dressed to the nines before stepping out to enjoy a smooth cocktail. On weekends, Havana is a haven for Pittsburgh's hip young professional crowd. On weeknights (Wednesday and Thursday), it's the ideal place for elegant repose.
The Draw
Patrons are all but guaranteed a perfectly poured cocktail any day of the week. Pale-pink cosmopolitans, sassy Cuban sangria or any of a multitude of martinis are best bets. For the martinis, dryness is rated on a scale of one to three "kisses," with a mere "handshake" of vermouth.

This chic bar in Shadyside's less-corporate Elsworth area is great for a quick drink or a long night out. They have a wide selection of beer, and lots of house cocktails ("rum punch" and the "marjuianaville" are the two I recomend). The bartenders are all great and service is quick. Not a dive bar (no beer on tap), but there is always good music and a friendly crowd.
Pros: great drinks, good crowd, Dj's
Cons: a little expensive

Four years ago, this was my favorite place in Pittsburgh to relax. The crowd was always well behaved, intelligent and chic and the service was friendly and classy as well. Presumably in an effort in increase profit, this place really downgraded its cachet, and now attracts 20-something wannabes, and even overgrown candy ravers on dance nights. Most nights its too crowded to be comfortable and too loud to carry on a conversation. The service is still adequate, provided you can fight your way to the bar, but the declining maturity of the crowd leaves the decor as the only remembrance of the way things used to be for Club Havana.
Pros: Good drinks, Friendly Service
Cons: Crowded, Confused themes
