Editorial Review for Sushi Too – by Sam Edelmann

The Scene
The room is light and clean, exuding an air of comfort. There is a small bar on the right, with some outstanding sake and Japanese beer choices. A small sushi bar to the left leads to two dining areas, with tile floors and small tables. Soft, warm colors abound. Servers are dressed in blue and white outfits, and do their job very well.

The Menu
There are numerous sushi specicialties, including a Pittsburgh and South Side roll. Combination platters abound for the novice or you can pick and choose from sushi and makzushi (rolls). While the sushi is good, the place is appealing because those who don't like raw fish have many other options. The gyoza (pan-fried beef dumplings) and the chicken asparagus maki (asparagus and carrot wrapped in white meat of chicken, broiled and served with teriyaki sauce) are outstanding appetizers, served in generous portions. Tempuras (fried foods) are light and crispy, the vegetables and shrimp are the standouts here. Anything with eggplant should be tried.

3 Star Rating: Average

I received a gift certificate here, so my friend and I went for lunch. We ordered 3 rolls of sushi, drinks, and each got a lunch special for $30. I highly recommend the lunch specials...you get a salad, soup, and a lunch that includes portions of three different items. I have no complaints here. It wasn't the best sushi I've ever had but for the price, I think it was great. I particularly liked the miso soup, which had the tofu diced instead of in huge chunks like some places tend to do. If you are a sushi snob this is not the place for you, but if you're looking for a casual place to get sushi and Japanese on the cheaper side, this might be for you.

I saw all of these negative reviews for this place but a very high overall score. I also thought this restaurant was mediocre the one time I ate there. I decided to total the stars from all of the reviews and divide by 16 (the number of reviews posted when I did my math) and found the average rating was 2.375 stars, not the four and a half stars so prominent when you read the review! This should be rectified.
