Best Sushi Ever. Those with little sushi eating experience should not be permitted to post comments about this restaurant. I've lived in Japan for several years and can tell you that my dining experience at Sushi Too was authentic and quite similar to "the real deal". I highly recommend this restaurant for it's sushi and noodle dishes. Also, that orange dressing rocks!!!
3x - no charm!. I have attempted dinner at sushi too 3 times, and have always been disappointed. The staff looked at me like I had 2 heads when I requested "brown rice" and the result was something hard without using the proper sauce. ew. the fish is generally rubbery, and the menu not creative. i'd rather get the take-out sushi at whole foods and eat in my own backyard than go back for a fourth missed attempt.
Go elsewhere for sushi. Deceived by Walnut St location. Sushi was sub par, crab rolls were Krab "imitation'. My platter consisted of mostly fried items that left me feeling greasy and gross. Seafood seemed frozen and low quality. Service was nice, but not that attentive. Save your money and go to a real sushi place.
Decent lower cost sushi. I received a gift certificate here, so my friend and I went for lunch. We ordered 3 rolls of sushi, drinks, and each got a lunch special for $30. I highly recommend the lunch specials...you get a salad, soup, and a lunch that includes portions of three different items. I have no complaints here. It wasn't the best sushi I've ever had but for the price, I think it was great. I particularly liked the miso soup, which had the tofu diced instead of in huge chunks like some places tend to do. If you are a sushi snob this is not the place for you, but if you're looking for a casual place to get sushi and Japanese on the cheaper side, this might be for you.
Overall Rating Whack!. I saw all of these negative reviews for this place but a very high overall score. I also thought this restaurant was mediocre the one time I ate there. I decided to total the stars from all of the reviews and divide by 16 (the number of reviews posted when I did my math) and found the average rating was 2.375 stars, not the four and a half stars so prominent when you read the review! This should be rectified.
The noodle soup made of insects.
I had a vagetable noodle soup with full of insects in it. They told me "it's from broccoli" without any hesitation and guilt. Why didn't you describe on your menu that the soup was made of insects? Surely, you'll get some proteins you didn't expect that much from the vegetable soup though,
When you order any kinds of food made of vegetables, be prepared for unexpected ingredients in your soup.
Avoid at all costs. I've always been told - if you walk into a sushi restaurant and it immediately smells like fish - leave. We should have because that's what first caught my attention. I decided to give it a chance since I'd heard such good remarks from others - but I now wish I hadn't. The vegetable tempura was very good. The sushi, not so much. Didn't taste very fresh and was below average as far as sushi goes. I don't plan on returning any time soon. And I agree with another review - don't let the Walnut St address fool you.
TASTES OKAY BUT NOT FRIENDLY. IN THISH RESTAURANT, SUSHI IS NOT RECOMMENDED, AT LEAST WHEN I WENT THERE. OTHER FOODS ARE OKAY BUT THE SERVERS WERE NOT VERY FRIENDLY.
AVOID THE SUSHI BAR. Sushi is an art. Presentation guidelines stretch back for hundreds of years. The reason is cleanliness and health concerns. Sushi Too is located in the trendy Walnut Street shoping district in Shady Side. Don't be fooled by the address. Its Sushi presentation and quality is poor. Go to Kiku or Sushi Kim to see professionals at work, then go to Sushi Too. You will see fish laying roughshod around the chef area, the sushi presentation is disheveled. Some of the sushi actually tasted bad to me. The masago was dry and granular. I think that this place was created to take advantage of it's location: high-end trendy environment. If you go to New York, Chicago, LA, San Franciso, Miami, you will find quality. This level of quality does not exist at Sushi Too. And with Sushi, there is NO room for compromise. It's too dangerous.
