Great inexpensive Thai.
This place has yet to disappoint, and I eat there frequently. I love their chicken pad thai. The only complaint I have ever heard is from my father, who ordered a 10 on spice and said it really wasn't the spiciest thing he's ever had. I definitely recommend going for the lunch special. Cheap, quick, quality food!

great fo a lunch.
This is my first time message, but I just have to share! I just went for lunch to this restaurant and LOVED it! The service was prompt and professional (I was served by Nick) and the food delish! I was seated quickly and my food was out within five minutes of ordering. Nick, the host/server was so attentive and professional I felt like I was being served in a four star restarant. The food was very tastey and a good portion. They allow you to specify your order in a 10 point scale of how much spice you want in your food, which to me was great. I had the pad thai which was done to perfection and the chicken so tender, yum! This is a great place to go for lunch and then linger around Walnut for an after lunch walk. The only prob: parking. I parked a few blocks away on a side street to save on parking money. I didn't feel this was a big problem however as long as you have the time :)

it's okay.
wanted to find something spicy and light. ended up at thai place. nice decor, prompt service. the food was ordinary. nothing to write home about. wished previous reviews were more honest and exact. had the crispy duck salad. it was lacking something, maybe it was flavor? the pad thai was good though. i would come back b/c it was an oasis in the middle of walnut.

New location, much nicer. Still great food.
Probably best Thai in Pittsburgh (is that like saying best sushi in Nebraska?) but the food is great. Newer location (around the corner from old) is a little darker, but more updated, cleaner, and fresh. For ambience, may want to think about somewhere else. For food, can't miss.

Find another place to go!.
Went to Thai Place after Girasoles was closed and was very disappointed in both the service and the food. We waited a very long time for our food and were ignored for over 30 minutes while everyone around us was served. When the food did arrive, it was cold.
Would not go back or recommend to anyone.

The best Thai food in town..
The Scene
Thai Place is a simple, elegant and bright dining room one doorway off Walnut Street, the main drag of Shadyside. There are large windows to watch the trendy passersby as you eat, as well as outdoor seating in clement weather. Service can be slow during busy times, but is at all times friendly and courteous.
The Food
The hot and sour soup is not the Chinese version, but tom yum gai--thinner and spicier, with a hint of coconut milk. The yum neuh, or grilled beef salad, is delicious with lime juice and chili powder bringing out the flavor of the meat. Pad Thai, the traditional Thai noodle dish, is served with pinkish rice noodles, and is as attractive in color as it is in taste. Entrees range from Thai curries to an outstanding spicy boneless duck. For the adventurous, try the calamari garlic, deep fried whole squid with ground chicken, shrimp and clear noodles in a spicy sauce.
