Amazing food and service. Excellent! A must go restaurant!. First time there, WOW. Wonderful food, nice display. I have been a cook for 20+ years. Friendly servers and employees. Excellent food. Will be going back at least 2 times a week for lunch...I'm hooked! The taste of the food and sauces was amazing! A must go restaurant! Parking garage is across the street and only $1.75 for first hour. Sometimes they let you slide the first hour.
Excellent overall. Hands down the best sushi restaurant in town. Wonderful atmosphere and food. The owner, Frank, will make you feel like you're the most important customer that has walked through the door.
Best Sushi in Pittsburgh. We've tried almost all the sushi restaurants in Pittsburgh and Little Tokyo is by far the best! It may not have the diverse selection that some of the trendier places have, but the fish is extremely fresh and reasonably priced. The service and atmosphere are also very traditional, the waitresses don't speak alot of English but wait on your every need. Our only complaint is that sometimes the service is too quick and we're not done with our appetizers when the sushi arrives. If you're looking for good sushi, Little Tokyo is the place to go!
Do you have patience?. The sushi is fresh, however the service is terrible. I have been to this restaurant many times before and never had a problem. The service is normally slow, but the other night it was outrageous. We arrived at 7 and they seated 4 other groups before us, then we did not get our food until 9 pm! It was ridiculous, then when asking why it was taking so long, they said it was because of the sushi. However a group that came a half hour later was already done with their sushi. The staff is friendly, but it may be percieved as fake. Sushi is good, service was ridiculous. If you have patience, I recommend this place, if not try somewhere else.
Fresh fish. This is one of the best sushi places I've been to in the Pgh area. Their fish is very fresh, the wasabi is fresh, and the prices are reasonable. This is also a great place for large groups (They were able to instantly accomodate 15 ppl on a Friday night, without prior reservations) I would also recommend their tempura ice cream. The only con for me is that it's quite far from the city and the road there probably isn't safe when the weather is bad.
Sushi at it's best!. I have traveled to many places in the 'burgh for sushi and this is hands down the BEST. My first expericnce with sushi was in Portland, OR were it is plentiful and was quite upset when I could not find a comparible place here, until Little Tokyo. I live in downtown Pittsburgh now and have tried many places closer to town and have been disappointed in the restaurants. I highly recommend Little Tokyo for it's fresh sushi, amazing feel and great service. You have a life long friend here Little Tokyo.
The South Hills provide a Far East feast..
The Scene
Light and airy, this is a rather large sushi bar and Japanese restaurant. The place exudes spotless cleanliness, with white everywhere and light green countertops. There is a large bar area as you enter, with a pleasant sushi bar and tables in the dining room. Service is very friendly, and exceptionally fast.
The Food
The sushi and sashimi are amazingly fresh. The California and salmon rolls here are light and fresh while the sushi/sashimi combo platter, with a dozen pieces of each, is an excellent way to try a range of fish. Most dishes come with miso soup or a house salad with a strong ginger dressing. Gyoza (fried spicy chicken dumplings) are excellent, as are the shumai (boiled shrimp dumplings). There are grilled hibachi meats and seafood, as well as teriyakis, both chicken and beef. Another outstanding dish is yakisoba (stir-fried noodles with chicken and vegetables).
The Best!. The is hands down the best sushi restaurant in Pittsburgh! The food is fresh...the staff is friendly...the place is immaculate. My favorite place in the 'Burgh!
Best Sushi in the 'Burgh.
Quite simply, fantastic, fresh sushi in a comfortable atmosphere.
The owner, Frank, is a consummate host...you feel like you are in his home.
Extensive wine selection...always changing.
But, the sushi, wow. There are also a number of great Korean/Japanese stir fry dishes and other dishes as well.
