Best TAKE OUT!. My kitchen was getting repaired and after ordering take out from many, many places... I found this to be the absolute BEST Chinese! You can tell the ingredients are fresh and just plain better quality. It has always been very hot. Although I have never eaten in the restaurant itself, I can't imagine the food not living up to the take out!
Great entrees!. The Sesame Inn at Station Square is just as good as the one in North Hills, except the service is not as good. Once the restaurant got a little busy, we didn't see the wait staff again. Also, the appetizers came out stone cold. But you leave happy because the entrees are amazing!
Food could be better. I think the food could be better since it has such a big reputation. Too much of this has been hype because the General Tso's Chicken is as bland as any bad chinese restaurant. The atmosphere is nice, but for the price, it could be much more elegant. For a restaurant that advertises itself as gourmet Chinese, it's far from the truth.
What is the Fuss About?. I do not know what the fuss is about. The food is mediocre at best, the ambience leaves much to be desired, and the prices are very inflated for the quality of food you are getting.
Best Chinese Food in Pittsburgh (possibly the country). Hands down the best chinese food in the Pittsburgh region! Go with the General Tso's or Amazing chicken for a fantastic experience!
Horrible service. I showed up to pick up my take out and the host was very rude and unhelpful. His english was broken and he showed an attitude. Def. not recommended. I am going elsewhere now.
Bad Experience. The food was mediocore. The price was not that great for the food that is served. I know this is a nice restaurant in a nice place, but the experience was just below what I expected. The servers had poor English and seemed only interested in selling me the most expensive dishes. Their recommendations were the 3 most expensive plates on the menu. Perhaps was a good restaurant at one point, now just a petty petty place.
Check it out. I do like this restaurant. I love to go there or get take out. The General Tso's is fantastic.
Chinese favorites served by a popular neighborhood eatery..
The Scene
A large, handsome second-floor dining room features windows overlooking Washington Road and a variety of different sized tables, some with lazy susans. This friendly, neighborhood place is constantly busy and filled with regulars.
The Food
The won ton soup is a great starter. In regard to entrees, large portions of Chinese specialties fly from the kitchen, elegantly presented on handsome platters. Softshell crabs, deep-fried and served with a black-bean sauce, are a must. In addition, vegetable dishes are excellent. The string beans in Mala sauce are well-cooked, and the sauce is smooth and delicious. Order anything in garlic sauce--it is spicy, a little hot, but not so overpowering that it is all one can taste in the dish. It's a tough sauce to make well, but Sesame Inn does it beautifully.
