The Scene – A classic neighborhood bar setup has a handful of spots to pass the time during the inevitable wait for a table. The kitchen, visible from the dining room, features a large hardwood grill and is an entertaining distraction. Students grab a quick bite, upscale professionals meet for lunch, families dine together and out-of-towners experience Pittsburgh's best burger. – – The Food – Char-grilled flavor adds a special flair to ordinary burgers, steaks and chops, making this the place to eat for grilled-food lovers. The burgers are half-pounders, cooked…
Not worth the hype...

After searching Pittsburgh for a decent hamburger, I kept getting recommendation for Tessaro's from friends and from internet searches.
I dined alone, early afternoon, when they were not busy. I got attitude when saying I was by myself. I was seated at a cramped table, and everything looked dirty.
I ordered a burger, cooked medium, with cheese and some condiments. Since they don't have a fryer, I ordered some of their potatoes, which are cooked on the grill with onions, peppers and spices.
The burger came out well done. Grrr. If there is ONE THING that upsets me the most when ordering any meat, it is if you ask me how I would like it cooked, and don't bring it to me that way! The bun was nearly impenetrable by my teeth, causing the insides of the sandwich to come spurting out the back end. The meat was dry and flavorless - utterly tasteless. The lettuce was wilted, and the tomato was also flavorless. The ketchup bottle on the table was disgustingly filthy, so much so that I didn't use it. I am not averse to dirt or funkiness, but it was truly gross.
The potatoes had been on the grill so long they were nothing but a gelatinous, gooey, greasy mess. I only took one bite.
NOT ONCE did the waiter ask if I was satisfied or needed a refill on my drink or anything.
I did not leave a tip.
There are MUCH BETTER places that this place to get a good burger in Pittsburgh. Try Atria's (the original place in Mt. Lebanon), or Molly O'Grady's, also in Mt. Lebanon. Both serve burgers WAY BETTER than Tessaro's.
- Pros: None that I can think of...
- Cons: Plenty, from poor seating to mediocre food
