Editorial Review for Tessaro's – by Sam Edelmann
The Scene
A classic neighborhood bar setup has a handful of spots to pass the time during the inevitable wait for a table. The kitchen, visible from the dining room, features a large hardwood grill and is an entertaining distraction. Students grab a quick bite, upscale professionals meet for lunch, families dine together and out-of-towners experience Pittsburgh's best burger.
The Food
Char-grilled flavor adds a special flair to ordinary burgers, steaks and chops, making this the place to eat for grilled-food lovers. The burgers are half-pounders, cooked perfectly to individual preference. Toppings run the gamut: various cheeses, coleslaw and Russian dressing among them. An estimated 400 are hand-patted daily. The secret? The burger meat has steak and filet added to the mix.

I have been eating at Tessaro's since I was very little. I have not lived in Pittsburgh since 2000.....but everytime I come into town, I go straight to Tessaro's from the Airport; luggage and all!!! They not only have the best ribs on Thursdays and the best Mexican on Mondays, but they have the BEST BURGERS IN THE WORLD!!!!!! The Atmosphere is what really makes the experience. You see people enjoying great food for very little money! Kelly and the entire staff make the experience for you!
Pros: Freshness of seafood, steaks and burgers. Napkins, atmosphere.....

The seating was reasonably prompt despite the crowded atmosphere, and the service was fine. However, the food was frankly unspectacular. I ordered their famous and award-winning hamburger while my wife had the prawns. They weren't bad, but we were a little disappointed given their reputation for great food. The prices also were not exactly $ (more like $$). Just tailor your expectations.
Pros: Prompt seating, good service
Cons: Food not great, little pricy
