The Scene – As diners step into Taste of India, they will immediately notice how bright and clean the room is, with Indian paintings on the wall. The menu is Indian, with some Pakistani specialties thrown in. – – The Food – Main courses range from chicken, lamb, beef and shrimp, as well as some of the moistest tandoori I've tasted. In addition, Taste of India offers thali, a traditional vegetarian meal hard to find around here. There is a large vegetarian menu, with over a dozen choices, including a delicious Alu Gobhi, a cauliflower and potato dish. –…

Exquisite/authentic food/bargain price!

by brandihoo

I called to order take-out. The samosas were perfect, the crusts were flaky and crisp, and the potato filling was nothing short of exquisite. The order was ready on time, the service was friendly, and the prices were fantastic. I intend to frequent there more often. When the hospital opens up across the street, they will soon be featuring a buffet. The decor was fancier than the prices would lead one to believe. Each table was tastefully covered in white linen, and there was a variety of indo-pak art on the wall.

  • Pros: Authentic/amazing food!
  • Cons: No smoking, no buffet *yet*

PERFECT!

by ellievee

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Taste of India while exploring our new neighborhood within the past few months. Expecting it to be a run-of-the-mill Indian place, but glad to have it so close to our new apartment, we ventured inside. What a pleasant surprise! The atmosphere is lovely, the servers are friendly and seated us promptly at a nice table. Both being strict vegetarians, we were delighted to see the many, many delicious options. We ordered two appetizers - couldn't decide because both the vegetable samosas and the onion fritters in chickpea flour sounded great (and were)! The food came promptly, and the meals we ordered were seasoned to perfection - not overly spicy - and were exceptionally tasty. The best part, though, was that when the bill came for our feast, it was only a little over 20 dollars-for everything! Taste of India also offers a variety of Indian beers that I'd like to try sometime soon, and a list of reasonably-priced wines. All-in-all, the experience was great...the best Indian food in Pittsburgh by far. We've been there twice in the past two weeks!

  • Pros: Location, Great Service, Delicious Food, Nice Atmosphere, Good Price
  • Cons: Can't eat early - Dinner hours start at 5

Kay masta chicken hain re

Being a Houstanian (is that even a word ! ); I know there are too good Indian restaurants in and around Houston. And a business traveller to Pittsburgh; my non-Indian colleagues have njoyed it too.

Most of the dishes are good; if you know what to order in a "muglai restaurant". Butter Chicken, Lamb curries, biryanis, tandooris all are off the hook. For vegans; Panner Makhani or Navaratan Korma is awesome. Quantity (1 entree) is enough for 2 (unless you havent eaten for days) and Quality is great; spices dont overpower and the tandoor breads (Naans and Rotis) are to die for.

I would recommend it to anybody. Best Indian restaurant in Pittsburgh.

Yummmm

  • Pros: Good food, ok service, also has a group table upstairs
  • Cons: not a dine in though
