The Scene There is an attractive bar area near the entrance, with two good-sized dining rooms beyond. The rooms are light and airy, with sufficient room between tables to maintain a civilized conversation. In addition, there is a large and very comfortable patio. Starters Or Finishers The soups and appetizers here will often make a meal. French onion soup, the homemade gravlax, and grilled vegetable quesadilla are all excellent. The spinach salad is also good. The Food The pasta dishes are very popular. Served in small sizes, you can have two different kinds for less than most…
One of a kind resturant
by CSMobileUser2 at Citysearch
Entering the resturant, I was greeted in a friendly manner, there was a play going on across the street so Cafe Sam had a special "european" menu to go with the regular menu. There is a huge selection, everything is reasonably priced and the portions are just enough. All of the waiters were extremly professional and explained the menu completly. The food came to the table in record time and the meat/veg/grain ratio was perfect. The only thing that could be changed is the decor is dated, although the resturant was very clean I will definetly be returning to Cafe Sam
March Madness

We had the $17.95 "March Madness" Four Course Dinner - Beef Brisket and Vegetable Soup, House Salad, Fresh Turkey Cutlet Parmesean (my boyfriend had Tilapia with Pecan Butter), and Strawberry Shortcake. Our waitress was great. Cafe Sam Rocks!!!
- Pros: Amazing Food
Great Dinner

Cafe Sam is Pittsburgh's best restaurant. Period. Where else can you get a large martini for $7.50 and a 15 oz. New York Strip Steak broiled to perfection for under $20? We stopped in on a snowy winter night, and were quickly warmed by the cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and great food at reasonable pricing. There is something on the huge menu for everyone, from basic continental to the finest in French cuisine (the host told us that both the owner and executive chef are Culinary Institute of America graduates). A lot of the food has interesting twists: there is a white kidney bean soup with kielbasa, a.k.a. Sam's wedding soup ($3.75), and tilapia picatta style ($14.95) which I usually see on veal or chicken. Don't forget to try the bittersweet chocolate mousee for dessert. Everthing about our experience was really perfect, and we can't wait to go back again!
- Pros: Great value!
- Cons: None!
