Editorial Review for Wood Street Galleries – by Manny Theiner
The Scene
When the single train line that Pittsburghers call a "subway" opened, the terminus was built at Wood Street station and a dilemma arose: What to do with the floors in the space above? The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust came to the rescue and turned it into a two-story gallery that has hosted exhibitions and installations by a bevy of international artists. It's also become one of the focal points of the revived downtown art scene.
The Collection
The free lunchtime lecture series, where attendees can discover more about such varied subjects as visual arts, dance and homeopathy, is a draw for the workers who bustle downtown. Weekend art lovers and tourists also make a point of visiting this unusual edifice, which is a symbol of the changing face of Pittsburgh's urban center.
