Editorial Review for Artistry – by Cindy Yogmas
The Scene
Artistry fits right in among the vast array of ethnic restaurants, stores and fashions, but remains distinctive in it's artistic grace. Specializing in all things Southwestern and beyond, it carries furniture, gardening supplies and home accessories of a creative and whimsical theme. A giant mural of Kokopelli, the Native American folk art flute player, stands at the back of the store to greet each customer and each showcase area is set on either an authentic gravel or rustic hardwood floor. Terra-cotta pots are shown adjacent to fantastic, giant outdoor fountains and intricately shaped wrought iron plant stands. Tile tables ($89) can be purchased (tiles sold separately) and fashioned to match and accent any living or dining room.
The Stuff
Everything seems so genuine and one-of-a-kind, so these treasures should be treated as and considered works of art. Backyard chimineas (little chimneys for cooking) range in size and price from $45-$525. A cedar mesquite coffee table goes for $1100 and a Brazilian clay chess set is $75. Not everything in the store is Southwestern. An early 1900s Victorian garden gate ($495) would give any yard a truly grand entrance. Even in Pittsburgh, smack dab in the middle of the Northeast, the style and attitude of the Southwest fits in just fine.
