Editorial Review for Piccolo Piccolo Ristorante – by Natalie Rieland
The Scene
Crisp tablecloths, walnut-colored beams running floor to ceiling and just enough lighting to allow diners to make out the sepia-toned family photos adorning the walls, Piccolo Piccolo's decor tells decades worth of stories. Sit at the bar and read autographed photos from George Carlin, Chita Rivera, Joe Laquatra, or, the revered Luciano Pavarotti. Then step into the dining room and see a family posing at their reunion, or a glowing couple on their wedding day.
The Food
Order "Pasta from the Land" or "Pasta from the Sea," or select an entree minus the pasta--it will come as a side. The single-page menu seems to explode with noodles and seafood along with some meat dishes. Tasty appetizers like polenta with caramelized onions and gorgonzola cheese shouldn't be passed up. If you order one thing skip the sides of pastas for the terrific homemade soups. The escarole and bean is a great compliment to any entree.

Not having been to Piccolo Piccolo for many years, perhaps my expectations were too high, but we visited recently and were not impressed. The antipasto bar was good but not great. Our food (4 meals) was served tepid. Our waitress was friendly but the simple task of opening a wine bottle was a challenge.
Pros: large tables, seated on time, salad served last
Cons: uninspired food, foot not hot, salad a throw-away

I always make it a point to have a meal here when I visit the 'burgh. The entire staff at this place makes every visit one to remember. I go an hour early just to have the time to spend at the bar with the other patrons.
Pros: Best bar in town
