In Short – It's a mainstay destination for the young and trendy, so Kaya is usually hopping. The bar shakes and pours numerous martinis and single-malt Scotches, while a unique food menu makes regulars out of well-dressed newcomers. Try the addictive homemade chips, made using fried root vegetables and plantains, with a spicy tomatilla salsa. Other notables include alligator on a stick and Jamaican jerk chicken wings.

Quite Impressed

by jaylo1954

I had lunch at Kaya for the first time this past Thursday. I liked the menu choices--better than the usual hamburgers and fries. There were so many choices that I had a hard time deciding what to get. The food was served in a timely manner and our waitress was very attentive. The prices were reasonable too. I was disappointed though that there was no Keylime Pie for dessert--that's why the 4 stars! If you like spicey food with a "bite" this definitely is the place for you.

  • Pros: Interesting menu
  • Cons: No Keylime Pie!

A Pittsburgh Favorite

by phillycmc

I've been to Kaya a couple of times when in Pittsburgh, most recently on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, and the food was again memorable. The beer selection continues to be extensive and well thought out and very good compliments to the food. The tempranillo we had with dinner was a great match. The tuna entree was not quite up to expectations. The tuna was fresh and perfectly cooked, but was dusted with too much cumin which really detracted from the fish. The portion size was significant, however, and a piece went uneaten. The sauce that came with the dish went well with the plantain fried rice (which in itself was novel). The jerked halibut was the star of the night. Well done with just the right amount of spice. Overall, I've never been disappointed with Kaya.

  • Pros: Good, zesty, interesting food that is well prepared; terrific beer list; good wine selections
  • Cons: None yet.

Great food in Pittsburgh - Gotta Stop at Kaya!

by GLo8

Pittsburgh was our first stop on our road trip across the country. Kaya Restaurant came highly recommended by our hotel, so we checked it out as our first dinner. Food was great - had many unique flavors and was very spicy which is what we were looking for. I did not expect a place in Pittsburgh to be able to make a Dark and Stormy well, but the bartender definitely knew how to make one! The sangria was also very good. I recommend the spiced pork chops in terms of entrees - Very very good. Kick'in flavor! The only thing lacking was the service. Our waitress was very nice and even helpful in pointing us to bars after dinner, but she had a very hard time remembering to bring us our water (we never got it all dinner), silverware, and limes...

  • Pros: Good food, Drinks, and Menu
  • Cons: Service was nice, but forgetful...
