One day I decided I was going to ask my girlfriend to marry me. I talked to my mother about it. She told me that if I was going to buy a ring I needed to go to this guy a friend of hers knew in the city. His name was Ira Helfer. She gave me her engagemant ring and a few other rings she had. I made an appointment and went to see Ira. I wanted a bigger diamond. Ira looked at my mothers diamond and told me that it was flawless, was cut long ago and was far more valuable than the stones on the market at the time. He had an artist cut a wax of the setting I described. He cast the ring, set the stones, and the finished product was perfect!! Cost??? $174!!!! Every time we go to see Ira he strips us of our jewery and scrubs it clean. Thank you Ira!!! One time they got a shipment of diamonds and they poured them out in my wifes hand. She almost crapped!! Ira is the best. He is known as the jewelers jeweler.

I had the Helfers custom-make an engagement ring, and I am very pleased. I was immediately impressed when I spoke to Ira on the phone and found him to be the most helpful of any jeweler I had contacted. I am very particular, but they were very patient with me. We loved that the business is actually a workshop: There are no display cases, just catalogs and people to talk to. You can see straight into the work area, and you speak with actual knowledgable jewelers, not just clueless suck-up salespeople. I plan to have them make our wedding bands, and I will be sure to use them for all custom and repair needs in the future. Also, the prices were very reasonable.
Pros: Extremely Helpful, Speak w/ Real Jeweler, Great Price
Cons: Easy to Overlook, Clark bldg=no eve hrs
