Editorial Review for Ryan's Pub & Grill – by Ernessa Carter

The Scene
Even if Ryan's Eire authenticity fails to touch that of such other Commonwealth-themed bars as Piper's Pub, there's no denying that it's a green diamond in the rough of Pittsburgh's neighborhood bars.

The Menu
With fresh-dough pizzas, pierogies, and a killer Reuben, it's hard to see where the Irish comes in, but a least you get to feast at clever green tables, on portions big enough to satisfy any American soul. The best bet for your buck are the hoagies, city-renowned for being cheap, tasty and huge.

Karaoke
Most nights are reserved for die-hard sports fans, but come 9:30pm on Sundays, even Mario Lemieux can't stop the weekly sing-along. Karaoke night is among the bar's most popular draws, and Sundays find Ryan's patrons treated to the musical stylings of regulars and drunkards alike. Everyone's invited to take a turn on the mike, and the waitress assured us, "No one boos. The crowd is always pretty nice. They clap for everybody."

Insider Tips

Sharing -- Not Always Nice

Those not starving often end up splitting their dishes, though watch out, the menu lists a $1 sharing charge.

Recommended Drink

Though Ryan's menu does feature micro, draft, and import beers, more interesting and delicious is the different frozen drink special for every day of the month.

Recommended Time of Arrival

Come before 10pm to beat the heavy crowds, especially on game and karaoke nights.

Low on Cash?

Ryan's has a MAC machine.

Great neighborhood bar and grill. The waitresses are friendly and timely, there is a nice selection of beer, and the food isn't bad. I'm not a fan of their pizza but the burgers are excellent! This is a fun Pittsburgh bar with a front deck that you can sit out on in the summer and spring. I love meeting friends at Ryan's. You can also reserve their deck for parties.
