The Scene – A dark, dingy, and busy bar and sandwich counter. The place is clearly untouched in 40 years, but that only adds to the charm. There is a constant flow of customers, day in and day out, buying price-performing sandwiches for their families, offices, card games, whatever. – – The Food – The Triangle has been famous for over 50 years for its battleship subs. This is a 24" hoagie roll stuffed with salami, ham, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, oil & vinegar, salt, pepper and oregano. Smaller versions are available (like the aptly named destroyer), as…

Editor's Tips

In Addition:
Any of their hoagies are good, but the fresh bread and dressing are a lot of what makes it so.
Chow Down:
A great place to pick up a sub before the game.
Hints:
Beer is inexpensive, but take-out is suggested. On Steelers game days, call in your order ahead.

BEST HOAGIE EVER

by inferno07 at Citysearch

When my husband and I started dating (27 years ago), he introduced me to the Battleship Hoagie. It is the best hoagie ever! We don't live close to the Triangle Bar but on special occassions go out of our way to get them (Steeler Games, Pirate games, Superbowl Parties, Work Parties)...For the Superbowl this year people were lined up 2 blocks in the freezing cold to get these Hoagies...now that tells you something....BTW...Pirmantis is way overrated...Triange Bar is the only way to go!

  • Pros: TASTE
  • Cons: NEIGHBORHOOD..only if you've led a sheltered life!

Best hoagie's I ever ate!!

by debbiemoss at Citysearch

I live in Charleston, S.C. and I've been here for 20 years..........there is NOT a hoagie than will EVER outdo the Battleship............I had a friend bring me one home when he went up to Pgh. to visit. I will be going in May and you can bet I will be bringing a few home with me. I really wish there was a way to have them shipped to me...........I would have one or two sent weekly............If you're ever in the Pgh. area.........make a point to stop at the best hoagie joint in the USA...........

  • Pros: fast service.......
  • Cons: not so nice neighborhood

The Best in the United States

by theburghonmymind at Citysearch

I grew up in Edgewood, not far from the Triangle Bar. I lived on the hoagies that they had there. Actually they were the best I had ever eaten. I moved out West and live in the State of Washington. A friend of mine went back to a Steelers game last year and asked what I wanted from Pittsburgh. I said I wish I could get a Destroyer sandwich from the Triangle Bar. To my amazement on Tuesday morning, I was enjoying a Destroyer from the Triangle Bar, in Vancouver, Washington. My friend went to the bar, had them wrap the Destroyer for take-out and brought it to me. I'm telling you the Triangle bar has the best sandwiches in America and believe me, being from Pittsburgh, I search out sandwich shops any where I go in this country. I can recommend the Triangle Bar as the best of the best!!!!

  • Pros: The great food there
  • Cons: The neighborhood
