Many options, one result. You can get pizza, breadsticks, subs, sandwiches, and whatever else is typical in an american pizzeria, but no matter what you chose, you can be sure you'll also get diarrhea... seriously, unbaked pizza?
Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter this Joint. First things first, the restaurant was not clean the day we were there. The pizza, in our opinion, was overpriced slop. The cold cheese gimmick is a real hoot. What's hiding underneath all the cold cheese? We ordered a 28-cut and actually pitched sixteen pieces in the garbage as we left. Please beware, this place charges 50 cents per topping--PER SLICE. Ha Ha Ha. Who do they think they're kidding? The customers on the day we were there were mostly cigarette smoking, tattoo rag tags of Pittsburgh's underside. Don't let the exterior appearance of this joint fool you. It looks nice on the outside, but the inside is a dump. Save your time and money. There are better places for pizza in Pittsburgh. This is not a good place for a family to eat.
Crazy prices for toppings. I ordered the tray with 30 slices with pepperoni, xtra cheese, and black olives the girl said $38.98, i said ok when I arrived to pick it up the girl said we made a mistake in your price and i said yea i thought it was a little high for a pizza and she said no its $88 and change and I said no way am I paying thatb for a pizza and she said well we can make a whole new one for you with just cheese and I said well do that then, so it cracks me up they would throw a pizza away because I refused to pay that price because they quoted me a different price which was crazy and just the cheese pizza came to $39.00 which is also too much, but I was done arguing I just wanted to get out of there. oh and I stopped at Giant Eagle and picked up pepperoni, sliced black olives, and cheese and paid $6 and still had some left over
Mediocre at Best.
As mentioned in other reviews, there is a gross overabundance of cheese, some of which is piled on after the baking as are the toppings. Different and probably good if you're into that sort of topping. The mushrooms look and taste as if they were opened from a can and drained, nothing else. The worst part was paying over $60 for 30 pieces of pizza with one and a third toppings (10 pep, 10 mush, 10 pep and mush). A tray of 28 plain costs under $30, I find it hard to believe that the toppings cost an additional $30, but our bill for 30 pieces with 1 and 1/3 toppings was over $61.
Cons: PRICE, cold generic toppings, way too much cheese
Pros: Can't think of one right off, it's nothing special
Pros:
Can't beat Beto's anytime, anywhere!. Sorry about "stale saltines" review. Guess they didn't grow up Beto's and therefore haven't developed a taste for it! Must be a fan of stale saltines though! I grew up eating Beto's since my high school days (late 60's/early 70's). The shop and parking lot were full then as they are now! I left Pgh in 1971 when I joined the Marine Corps and I am still working for the Marine Corps 40 years later and have been all around the world. Not neccessarily comparing Beto's pizza to other places in states and around the world - but for me it's simply the best and brings back many memories. Everytime I return to Pgh I eat/takeout Beto's for myself and my Pgh family. I have even returned to VA with Beto's in my vehicle for the Pgh'ers that live near me. This becomes a hazard while driving becuase all I do is smell the pizza and I want to eat it during my 5 hour drive. I have to order extra so I have enough for my displaced Pgh'ers in VA. Botton line - up front (BLUF) - YOU CAN"T BEAT BETO's ANYTIME ANYWHERE!!!
I would rather eat a box of stale saltines.. Honestly, stale saltines would be preferable to this horrible excuse for pizza. I actually created an account here just so I could advise you to never waste your time or money on Beto's Pizza. I've never felt the need to write a review like this until now. Every negative thing you'll read in the other reviews is absolutely accurate. You've heard about the terrible cold, canned toppings, the disgusting, cheap cheese, the flavorless, cardboard-like crust and the awful sauce and I can guarantee the truth of these descriptions. I can sum up my feelings in four words: Go to Fiori's instead. It's about a five minute drive from Beto's and it's the closest thing Pittsburgh has to an authentic, quality pizza place. I took my eight year old niece to Beto's and she couldn't eat it. She was disgusted. Her review? She said, "This isn't pizza."
This is the real deal!. I grew up in Beechvew and as a kid I would walk down the hill with money I earned selling newspapers to get my Beto's fix. I ended up living in other cities up and down the east coast for the past thirty years. Now I am back in the "Burg" and living in Dormont. I can't tell you how much I missed Beto's. Sometime over the years a resturant will loose it's focus and the food suffers. This is not the case here, it is as good as it always has been. This is THE pizza in my eyes.
I wish I could rate it higher!!. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. Most people will tell you that Fiori's is better. I HIGHLY disagree. I love, love, LOVE Beto's pizza. It's so unique. I love the unmelted cheese and the chunky sauce and the crisp crust. I moved to Los Angeles a while back. We have everything under the sun out here except a place that serves pizza like Beto's. Hands down, and by far my all time favorite pizza. It's not for everyone, in fact you either love it or hate it. I happen to LOVE it!!
excellent. Don't listen to anyone on this site. Beto's is a pittsburgh tradition. People either love it or hate it, but dont be some loser who goes on to websites and bashes a business! have some class! Beto's is constantly busy, so pizza sometimes takes awhile and 15-20 minutes is not a long time to wait people!! My advice is to just GO there! DONT take anyones OPINION, make your own. the people that bad mouth places on sites like these are miserable or because they had 1 bad experience. if you read thru most of the reviews are good, and in the restaurant business, YOU CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE! BETO'S IS THE BEST!
