Dogsh!t might be tastier. For some reason I recall that this place use to be better. How it continues to keep its doors open is beyond me! If you want to get something to drink, there are much better options around the area. If you want to get something to eat, I'm not sure there is a worse option in the entire city. DO NOT EAT HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! AWFUL FOOD. I wouldn't feed this food to my worst enemy. I imagine this is what prison food tastes like.
worst detestable walmart food....... i officially have had the worst food ever... jose and tony's more like sweaty disgusting fat body and bug sauce.. are shittin me, mexican food?.. a zagnut bar would be gourmet compared to your styrofoam plates and cheese whiz sauce. i loved the tuna clumped aka chicken tacos with hunts ketchup on it.. and did you ever hear of lipton taco rice it would be an upgrade compared to barf rice.. just stick with a bar its hard to mess up a corona. how does a deplorable business stay open in such pleasant community? i should have listened to my instincts when choco taco's are your dessert.. i'm opening a restaurant and serving fruity pebbles in a plastic bowl, pigs u should be ashamed for advertising that crumb bumb hole..........
What happened to this place?. This place opened in the late 1960's and was one of the first mexican resturants in the city. I thought it was good back then, either I just didn't know any better back then or it has really gone down hill. It's a shame, the food is way below par. What you can buy in a super market and throw in a microwave is better. It's a shame that a Pittsburgh landmark is ruined.
Diarrhea on a Plate.
Jose and Tony's is a decent place to grab a beer, just don't eat the food. I paid maybe 7 or 8 bucks only to receive a crusty, dry and burned "enchilada" on a styrofoam plate with plastic silverware. The guys in the kitchen literally slopped some crap on a plate that was sitting out all day, nuked it in the microwave, then called us to come get it at the counter, at which point they all went outside to smoke. Not only is the food awful, but so is the service.
Do yourself a favor: heat up a Hot Pocket, punch yourself in the face, then throw $10 in the garbage- it'll save you the time and shame of eating at Jose and Tony's.
Are you people cracked out?. I'm sorry.... I hardly EVER give bad reviews... BUT THIS PLACE DOES NOT HAVE AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD! I had the WORST tacos EVER here... The wings were the only thing I could stomach! Everything was mushy and overcooked... If you want REAL authentic Mexican food go to Mexico City in Downtown!
Go to a real mexican restaurant!. This place is absolutely aweful!! The food is dry and tastes like it was cooked in a microwave! This is no where near authentic mexican food. There are good Mexican Restaurants in Pittsburgh now, expand your horizons!!! Mexico City downtown is a great start!
Terrible and the beer couldn't make it better.. I try not to read reviews prior to going to a restaurant and I did read some today and tried to stay positive. Unfortunately, those who gave it a poor rating were spot on. I thought I remember the food being good, this being over 10 years ago. The refried beans were worse than the stuff we have on occasion at home. Very disappointing for the prices charged for enchilada plate and burrito. Should've went to Atria's.
Microwaved gringo fare. It's been a while since I've been there and for good reason. It's basically gringo fare that isn't really Mexican: you know, the kind that has bland ground beef with the orange cheese, refried beans from a can, and iceberg lettuce that has little to do with the cuisine from any of the many cooking regions of Mexico. Its advantages are that it is cheap, family friendly, and the beer is decently priced. Last time I was there they served most food in weird black plastic containers, but this may have changed. With a menu and ingredient edit, it could improve. I'm assuming the proprietor(s) serve this version of "Mexican" since that's what most Americans buy and think is Mexican, but if they did some research (there are books out there), they could improve the menu while still keeping it low-key, and actually increase sales... The neighborhood has some other restaurants within walking distance too, but none that are Mexican.
Awful food. I actually couldn't believe how bad the food was. I am not that picky, and I wasn't expecting that much since it's just a local bar. But honestly, my burrito was cold and gummy and disgusting. My husband's meal was just as bad.
great mexican food. They have the best mexican food since the closing of chi-chi's. The california burrito and taco salad are great.
