We were SO looking forward to going to
CC's Cafe last night! We have a group of 4-5 of us that do dinner once a month and we are looking for good food, great atmosphere and a nice relaxing dinner. One of us had been to CC's before and they were anxious for us to all try it.
She called for reservations for Saturday on Monday, and was told they were busy and would call her back. She called again Tuesday and was told "oh they forgot to call her", but it was still busy and they would call her back. Finally Wednesday after being told they would have to make some schedule changes to accomodate us, we could come at 6:30, but PLEASE come early as they were going to be busy and we would have to "get in and get out".
I called an hour before we arrived inquiring about seperate checks, which they don't do for any party size, okay that's fine, great to know ahead of time.
Two of us arrived first and were told we had no reservations! We explained the three phone calls this week and they said "oh the owners are in Florida and you probably talked to them and they didn't tell us"???? Really, we called the landline and who forwards the land line for their business during business hours to their vacation locations? Anyway, they said just have a drink and we will find you a table.
We were seated when all parties arrived. Our waiter got our drinks and order and our appetizer arrived, chicken/artichoke dip. It was tasty but hard pressed to find the chicken. Our table side salad service happened about 45 minutes after sitting down. No problem, so far so good, we are enjoying the conversation.
The meals were another story. My crabcakes were delicious, but VERY small portion for the price! The mushroom risotto was very bland. The brie cheese pasta was swimming in oil, it was hardly eaten. The chicken portabella pasta was a little better. Two of us got the encrusted salmon. One of them was perfect but the other one was raw in the middle. When brought to the waiters attention, there was no "I'm sorry", or "let me do something to make it right", he actually said "all our seafood is sushi quality so you would be fine eating it"! He was told no thank you, please just take it away. There was no adjustment on the bill except for him to add a 20% gratuity on a blank piece of paper stapled to the original bill.
I asked to speak to him about the automatic tip and he said they do that for all tables of 5! When calling about the reservations and the seperate checks we were never told that. I explained that we are used to automatic tips of 18% and generally tip more if food & service warrant that. I also told him considering our experience we would tip him 15% and no more. Honestly I don't think anything I said would have gotten a reaction, and apology or any emotion. The whole attitude of the staff was arrogant and very unappealing for all of us. But, please try it yourself and decide.
