Best hair stylist in town. I've been growing my hair out for a year b/c of a bad cut I got a while back from another place. I researched good, affordable hair salons, and it came down to this salon and a place in Shadyside. Luckily for me, I chose this place and happened to get Sarah, who I've read positive reviews about, and got an awesome haircut. I brought a picture to show her how I wanted my hair cut, and she understood exactly what I wanted. She was professional, attentive, and explained what she was doing. Now I know where I'll be going for as long as I live in Pittsburgh.
If I moved out of state, I'd still fly back for Puccini's. I've been a regular at the Oakland salon for years, and now several of my friends and family members are regular clients, too! I like to change my hair fairly often, and Sal (the owner and my favorite stylist) always gets it right. I know I can count on him to tell me if a certain cut or look isn't a great fit for my face shape, and he also knows how to tailor whatever look I'm wanting so it DOES look great on me. I always look forward to my appointments--the Oakland salon is a fun mix of hip and comfortable, and I know I'll be leaving that day feeling 200% more attractive than I did when I went in. I guess that's the power of a great cut and color!
PUCCINI'S: A MIXED BAG.
I went to Puccini's twice: the first time I got a cute cut and overall colour. The second time I got... an unpleasant experience.
Having no prior experience with any of the house stylists, I took a walk-in with Annie. I was pleasantly surprised that she gave such a good, short cut--a challenge few stylists can meet. My style looked good straight or wavey, and Annie suggested two great Paul Mitchell products. However, when I asked for foils my second time in, Annie miscalculated and the bleach failed to take. Again, she dried my hair and applied foils. Again it failed, resulting in hideous, washed out half-blond half-reddish streaks. Terrifying! I accepted Annie's sincere apology but was stunned when her manager insisted, "I think it looks kinda cool." This pathetic attempt to recover my confidence made me think, If he thinks this looks good, I'm in the wrong place. So, despite Annie's sincere apology, I won't be going back. I'd rather have a stylist who's honest than one who tries to pass off failure as success.
To his credit, the manager charged me only for the cut, overall colour and correction. But after a hair trauma and four hours wasted in the salon, I think I'll take my chances elsewhere.
Affordable, trendy salon. Great value!. I highly recommend Puccini's to anyone who is looking for a stylish yet affordable haircut. I have had my hair cut by three different people at this salon, and loved every one of them. They also did a fabulous job on my husband's longish hair. Prices are fair, as they charge by the length of hair cut off; a basic trim will cost you less than a drastic change. The music and atmosphere are also great, the stylists are personable, and everything about this place rocks. They have spared me from the boring, old-lady haircuts I was getting everywhere else. The sad part is, I moved from the area and don't know if I'll ever find a salon I like this much again!
