TERRIBLE SERVICE. STAFF WAS TERRIBLE. WHOLE RESTAURANT WAS EFFECTED. FOOD WAS ROOM TEMP. AVOID AT ANY COST. I WAS THERE ON MY OWN FIRST TIME CUSTOMER. HEARD AND READ A LOT RECENTLY WITH THE TRIP TO DC AND WANTED TO EXPERIENCE. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT AWFUL, AWFUL
Great breakfast!. People rave about the pancakes but I love the home fries and the french toast is great too. There are several locations, and people debate which one is best; but I like the one in the Strip District best with Shadyside right behind it.
Best Breakfast I've EVER Had. Yes, you will wait in line and yes, the food will be greasy. However, I wouldn't want it any other way. I've never had a thin pancake with crispy edges and filling the pancakes with brown sugar and sour cream along with the fruit of your choice is complete culinary genius. The home fries are also the best I've ever had and they were cooked to a crispy perfection.
Terrible food. So many people talk about Pamela's, so I was in Squirrel Hill and thought I would try it. I took two bites of my strawberry pancakes and could not stomach any more. It was greasy. Grease was the only flavor I could taste. When the waitress asked me how it was I said "not very good". She offered to bring me something else, but after watching them cook, I could tell that everything would taste like grease. They charged me the full amount for two bites of food. I will NEVER eat here again! Oh, it's cash only.
Poor - Avoid this rest.. Not sure why the address is Forbes avenue. The service was bad and the food reminded me of another rest. that all the choices on the menu ALL taste the same. Will avoid in the future. Not a good experience.
Nice looking, but poor service. Don't let the image fool you.. Pamela's has been in business for many years, but I can't figure out why exactly. The service was, well, absent. I waited at the door for someone to acknowledge me, yet no one sat me, waited on me; nothing. Left, then told others of my experience and they said......menu is not wide enough, service is average to below average. Coffee is bad. I probably would not waste my time trying to return to the questionable #1 rated restaurant. Should not have made the list.
Horrible coffee. Good coffee is essential to a breakfast joint like Pamela's. Unfortunately, their coffee tastes like diluted muddy water. Their service also tends to favor the locals and not new-comers like us. We were the first ones in line and on the list, but a family that came much later with the same number of adults and child, whom the owner seemed to know by name, got seated before we did. Very disappointed, since their pancakes ARE good.
Extremely cheap and unbelievably delicious. This is the best breakfast restaurant I have ever been to in my life. I am not a rich college student and I can still afford to have breakfast there every weekend. It is amazingly cheap, and the portions are unreal. For 6 dollars, you can get a large portion of eggs, three pieces of sausage, a huge portion of home fries, and toast. And at that price, it is still the best breakfast I have ever had.
Fantastic Breakfast. I frequent the Strip District and Oakland locations. The Strawberry Pancakes with a side of potatoes is great. Personally, I enjoy the coffee (unlike some other reviewers) it tends to be strong. The Strip locations brings it out in a small carafe and you can work into a true state of coffee buzzed bliss. Note that you are getting diner style coffee - not flavored mock espresso style beverages. I have tried some of the meat and egg dishes at this location and although some are excellent it is the strawberry pancakes that call to me early on a Saturday morning. I would recmd. the Strip location many times over the Oakland location. Many years ago it would have been a toss up. I now find that the friendliness of service and prompt attention to your every need is more likely to be found at the Strip location where every member of the wait staff works to make you happy. The Strip location is a bit crampped on space and can be rather noisy. I recmd. arriving early on a Saturday so you do not have to wait with the crowd. 7:30 is perfect. Every person in Pittsburgh, wether traveling through or perm resident, should make it to Pamela's in the Strip at least once in their life. IF you try the strawberry pancakes I think you will be hooked.
Very nice breakfast--very BAD coffee..
In a city that has the disease of Eat n Park killing off any good breakfast establishment, it's nice to know that Pamela's has tucked itself into the one place the hambeasts don't want to go--The Strip.
Pamela's has very nice breakfast offerings with tasty pancakes and they seem to have most of you standard breakfast fare down well. HOWEVER, the coffee is without a doubt the most miserable swill that I've ever endured. I'm not sure what sawdust they're putting into the coffee pots, but it is BAD. I highly recommend going around the corner to any of the local roasters and picking up a cup before heading to Pamela's. Once you've gotten that, you'll be in good shape.
The dining room is light and pleasant and there are lots of goofy photos and memorabilia from the 50's and 60's to look at while you eat. Go early on a Saturday morning as they are typically quite busy being the best spot for breakfast in the strip.
Also, don't forget, credit cards aren't accepted so bring some cash!
