Editorial Review for Papa John's Pizza – by Jason Clampet
In Short
These bright white storefronts are accented with green and red details and photos of the chain's boyish founder. The simple menu focuses on standard pies and chicken-centric specialty pizzas--the Hawaiian BBQ, BBQ chicken, and bacon and chicken club--each topped with fresh ingredients like baby portobello mushrooms and roma tomatoes. A selection of sides includes bread sticks, cheese sticks, chicken strips and a handful of dipping sauces.

Papa John's is, unfortunately, something of a victim of its own design. The pizza is average, not great - but it's the delivery that will really get you. The last time I ordered from them, I waited more than two hours for one little pizza - two hours AFTER their confident "it will be there in 45 minutes!" had passed. Their crust is a bit too doughy, and their pizzas are small for the price. Still, I suppose if it's the only thing nearby, it's acceptable - but you might want to pick it up yourself.
Pros: It's pizza, and it works if you're desperate
Cons: You need to be desperate, delivery service is shoddy

Papa John's Pizza is rivaled in bad chain pizza only by Pizza Outlet. Stick to the real delivery pizza--Pizza Hut or Domino's. For non-chain pizza go to Sorrento's or Mineo's, and stay away from Antoon's, the O, and Larry & Carol's AT ALL COSTS. You have been warned.
Pros: none
Cons: you name it
