Editorial Review for Carnegie Museum of Art – by David C. Madden and Manny Theiner
The Scene
After building an empire of steel on the backs of the region's industrial workers, 19th-century tycoon Andrew Carnegie decided it was time to give some of his vast fortune back to the community. As a result, the huge complex of buildings comprising the Carnegie Museums and Library was constructed on Forbes Avenue. Recently, the imposing stone facade of the Carnegie, including the statues of lions and famous philosophers and composers, was scrubbed clean of a century of soot. It now looks brand new, with a likeness of the museum's first archaeological find installed in the flower gardens outside.
The Collection
An impressive collection of everything from classic paintings to 16mm films occupies the permanent collection. Highlights include works by Degas, Van Gogh and Cassatt. The Hall of Sculpture is modeled after the Parthenon and serves as a unique exhibit space.

This is the best museum ever. I love watching movies in the Rangos Theater and also watching laser shows on friday and saturday nights. I always seem to have fun. It's like I'm a big kid when I go there. I also like the gift shop. Lots of cool stuff there to look at as well.
Pros: parking, exhibits, Rangos Theater

with art and natural history all in the same building I could get lost in here for days and not mind. There's really a lot to see and learn here -- no matter how many times you've been there before.
