Great food!. Today was the first time I had been to Wilson's BBQ. A co-worker told me about the place and I must say it is down right good. I do wish their was more or a varity of side dishes. I would have loved to dip some homemade fries into the awsome sauce. If you haven't been...go!
Great Neighborhood Joint.
I live in the same neighborhood as Wilsons and am so happy it is here.
There are not a lot of menu options, but that is ok because the food that they have available is outstanding. Instead of trying to do a million different things, they stick to what they know best and do it well. The workers have always been nothing but pleasant to me, even helping me decide what I could get with the little bit of cash I had on me the first time I was there, and the prices are very reasonable.
The potato salad is what motivated me to come on and write a review. It is to.die.for. So delicious, just like everything else from Wilsons.
One Dam Good Barbecue. I got to know mr. Wilson, and his family by living in the northside on chateu street, back in the 90's, . The place sits off near Allegheny General Hospital, on the corner of Taylor, and Buenavista street. Is just a little place, a bit run down, but, to me, is just charm to the area. I will agree that sometimes they do get a bit raffled if you just keep adding to you order, instead of ording all at once never did understand why, maybe due to the heat leaveing the pit., but who cares. If you talk to the man, he is very informitive on the ways he orders his select woods he uses to smoke his ribs, and chicken.as any other question you may have to ask. The ribs and chicken are done to perfection, very moist, and falling off the bone, with one of the best tomato based sauces ever created, hot or mild, or a combo of both. you won't be disappointed. I live out in the East now, but make trips in to treat myself to his delicious slow , smoked barbecued meats.. One of Pittsburghs Best, Thankyou Mr.Wilson.
Well..I decided to try the place after hearing our neighbors comments..Gotta say ..interesting that the person defends her father and blasts folks for being on their Cell phone when she is doing it herself. Tried to be so gracious to her and she had no interest what so ever .. It truly needs a good cleaning and someone needs to teach them that customer service is everything, especially in such a small neighborhood..
I do not plan on going back and can only say Ribs are Ribs..not much artistic flair to make em great..just cook em forever..
Not very good. I visited Wilson's with high hopes, but was very disappointed by the dry and tough ribs. Also I was very turned off by how dirty the place is. I did not want to touch the door, it was quite grimy and indeed pretty much every surface in the place is.
I love this place. I used to have an office in the North Side, and was looking for an authentic BBQ Place, (no watered down chain joints for me, thank you) I found Wilsons was only a few blocks away and went there one day for lunch. I can't say enough about it. The ribs are large, the sauce is incredible, and it's cooked on wood in a chimney. Authentic smoking. I never had a problem ordering. The hot sauce will make your eye water, and the aroma of picking it up and driving it back to my office made my mouth water. (actually it's watering right now thinking it) Not sure what the "rude" thing is about, they've always been nice to me and my friends. Some people are just too sensitive.
This is a real rib joint. This is what barbecue should be those that think its rude need lessons on how to order food whether busy or not, the old style of ordering is "Have your money in your hand and your order on your mind". No its not fancy, but a good barbecue joint is not suppose to be. If you want to get food from a fancy place stick with the chain restaurants that get the ribs boiled in brine water and just reheat them on a charbroiler. I've never had a problem with the food, ordering, or service. I have my own line of barbecue products and patronize Wilsons because I like good people that work hard and love what they do.
Pretty good.......best in the Burgh. I have been trying to find good 'real' BBQ since I moved to Pittsburgh and I think I found it at Wilson's. The flavor of the meat and sauce (both hot and mild) are outstanding. My only issue is that both times I was there the ribs were a little tough. They would be the best ribs ever if they gave you a babyback option
WILSON'S BAR-B-Q. TO THE HATERS OF OLDER PEOPLE. MY DAD HAS WORKED VERY HARD FOR HIS REPUTATION AND WE ARE THE BEST. HE HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR OVER 40 YRS.. THERE IS NOT ANOTHER BAR-B-Q PLACE THAT CAN SAY THAT. ESP. HERE IN PGH..THERE IS A SIGN IN WILSON'S THAT SAYS TO PLEASE ORDER YOUR FOOD ALL AT ONE TIME. I WROTE IT. I DON'T LIKE UNDOING WHAT I HAVE DONE EITHER. SOME PEOPLE COME IN ON THEIR CELL PHONES AND THERE IS A SIGN FOR THAT. SOMETIMES THERE IS A LINE TO GET IN. PEOPLE WHO LIKE THE BEST BAR-B-Q WILL WAIT. WHEN YOU SAY THINGS ABOUT PEOPLE IN THE NEGATIVE THAT'S OK. BUT, I WANT YOU TO REMEMBER MR. WILSON HAS A LOT OF FAMILY THAT LOVE HIM AND IF U HAPPEN TO COME BACK, TALK TO HIM. HE IS A VERY SMART MAN. I NEVER SAY ANYTHING WHEN OLDER PEOPLE GET TESTY WITH ME BECAUSE IT MAY BE YOUR MOM OR DAD.
best ribs. His ribs are the best, the hot sauce is no joke! He has to be "rude" thats how he survived so long in that neighborhood. Your safe in his place, the hoods wont go anywhere near him!
