What People Are Saying About Wilson's Bar-B-Q

In Short – Though there are a couple of tables available, Wilson's Bar-B-Q is a genuine Southern-pit barbecue, selling takeout almost exclusively. Slow-cooked meats include tender chicken and pork ribs. Meals come with spongy, commercial white bread that's perfect for sopping up the tangy sauce (available hot or mild). Creamy sides include potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw and peppery collard greens.

Great Neighborhood Joint

by ohidontthinkso at Citysearch

I live in the same neighborhood as Wilsons and am so happy it is here.

There are not a lot of menu options, but that is ok because the food that they have available is outstanding. Instead of trying to do a million different things, they stick to what they know best and do it well. The workers have always been nothing but pleasant to me, even helping me decide what I could get with the little bit of cash I had on me the first time I was there, and the prices are very reasonable.

The potato salad is what motivated me to come on and write a review. It is to.die.for. So delicious, just like everything else from Wilsons.

One Dam Good Barbecue

by Michaelthetaz at Citysearch

I got to know mr. Wilson, and his family by living in the northside on chateu street, back in the 90's, . The place sits off near Allegheny General Hospital, on the corner of Taylor, and Buenavista street. Is just a little place, a bit run down, but, to me, is just charm to the area. I will agree that sometimes they do get a bit raffled if you just keep adding to you order, instead of ording all at once never did understand why, maybe due to the heat leaveing the pit., but who cares. If you talk to the man, he is very informitive on the ways he orders his select woods he uses to smoke his ribs, and chicken.as any other question you may have to ask. The ribs and chicken are done to perfection, very moist, and falling off the bone, with one of the best tomato based sauces ever created, hot or mild, or a combo of both. you won't be disappointed. I live out in the East now, but make trips in to treat myself to his delicious slow , smoked barbecued meats.. One of Pittsburghs Best, Thankyou Mr.Wilson.

Pretty Bad

by northsider at Citysearch

Well..I decided to try the place after hearing our neighbors comments..Gotta say ..interesting that the person defends her father and blasts folks for being on their Cell phone when she is doing it herself. Tried to be so gracious to her and she had no interest what so ever .. It truly needs a good cleaning and someone needs to teach them that customer service is everything, especially in such a small neighborhood..

I do not plan on going back and can only say Ribs are Ribs..not much artistic flair to make em great..just cook em forever..

  • Pros: Ribs
  • Cons: Cleanliness and Rude folks

Not very good

by pgh_foodie at Citysearch

I visited Wilson's with high hopes, but was very disappointed by the dry and tough ribs. Also I was very turned off by how dirty the place is. I did not want to touch the door, it was quite grimy and indeed pretty much every surface in the place is.

  • Pros: Convenient location
  • Cons: Dirty place, dry and flavorless ribs.

I love this place

by Mugshotz at Citysearch

I used to have an office in the North Side, and was looking for an authentic BBQ Place, (no watered down chain joints for me, thank you) I found Wilsons was only a few blocks away and went there one day for lunch. I can't say enough about it. The ribs are large, the sauce is incredible, and it's cooked on wood in a chimney. Authentic smoking. I never had a problem ordering. The hot sauce will make your eye water, and the aroma of picking it up and driving it back to my office made my mouth water. (actually it's watering right now thinking it) Not sure what the "rude" thing is about, they've always been nice to me and my friends. Some people are just too sensitive.

  • Pros: best Ribs in town, without question
  • Cons: I don't live on that side of the city anymore.
