Tips for La Tavola Italiana Restaurant

Bad Concept for Mt. Washington, No view, no liquor license. Sounds like a horrible idea to me so when I first heard of a "Cigar Dinner" there a number of years ago, I went with trepidation. Well, I was amazed at the food and have been back numerous times overe the last few years.

No view, BYOB, well you better cook like a champ and they do. Another plus, you don't pay for a view of Pittsburgh. I have have been around for three Pirates World Series Championships (yes, wolly mammoths did roam locally when I hatched) so I've seen the view. I come for excellent food and when I want Sicilian Home Cooking, I go to La Tavola Italiana. Kudos to Carmela and her staff!

Great Food, Great Service, Great Family. My friend an I ate here about a week a go and the the food was absolutely wonderful and the atmosphere was fantastic. I highly recommend starting off with the Calamari Diavalo appetizer. It's large enough for 2-3 people. The Beans & Greens are also very tasty. I had the veal chop which was cooked perfectly, very tender.

While you're there make sure you meet Carmela and Jolina the head Chef. The restaurant is BYOB and there is a corkage fee. Some people my be surprised by this, but keep in mind the fee covers things like broken glasses, red wine on table clothes, etc. So if you're looking for a good meal and good people I recommend La Tavola. If you're interested in take out, you should try their pizza, especially the Margarita.

Best food in the city. I have been to this restaurant numerous times and it is ALWAYS excellent. Never tasted food like it. All homemade. Expect to spend many hours there...they do not rush you. It is an eating experience you will not forget and the best kept secret in town.

BEST DINNER IN PITTSBURGH. MY DAUGHTER TOOK ME TO DINNER WED NIGHT AND IT WAS THE BEST MOTHER'S DAY PRESENT I HAVE EVER HAD. THERE WERE FOUR OF US FOR DINNER AND WE ALL HAD SOMETHING DIFFERENT. THE APPETIZER SPECIAL'S WERE BEYOND BELIEF. THE RANCH SALAD DRESSING WAS THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD (THEY MAKE THEIR OWN). THE DINNERS WERE SPECTACULAR! WE TRIED TWO SPECIALS THE PORK CHOPS AND SHRIMP SUFFED WITH CRAB AND TWO DINNERS FROM THE MENU SPEGETTI AND CHICKEN MARCELLA. THERE IS NOT ENOUGHT SPACE IN THIS NOTICE FOR ME TO SAY ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS ABOUT THE FOOD. IN SHORT IF YOU WANT THE BEST FOOD IN PITTSBURGH, TREAT YOURSELF AND HAVE DINNER HERE. DINNER'S ON THE MENU ARE MODERATELY PRICED AND WORTH EVERY PENNY. PLAN TO RELAX AND ENJOY THE EVENING, DINNER TAKES A WHILE BECAUSE EVERY MEAL IS MADE TO ORDER. EVERYONE ENTERING THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS MADE TO FEEL SPECIAL, BECAUSE THEY WANT YOU TO ENOY YOURSELF AND HAVE A SPECIAL DINNER - ENJOY

Best Italian Food in Pittsburgh or anywhere else!. Don't miss the ABSOLUTE BEST Italian cuisine in Pittsburgh! This is your Italian Grandmothers cooking and every dish is mouth-watering. This is where I take my Italian friends for dinner--there is no place that can compare. I have recently eaten at La Tavola for the third time and the meals just continue to be beyond belief. Each meal is made from scratch and so it takes a little time--don't go if you are in a rush because the meal is the evening. I've eaten the pastas, chicken, and seafood, each was an epicurean delight. I now live in Virginia, but every time I come home, La Tavola is a must. I know this may sound like an exaggeration, but I have been to Italy many times and the food at La Tavola's is on par with the Very Best. The added personal touch is that the owners Joe and Carmela come out of the kitchen to talk with the guests--just like the finest of Italy.

Fantastic. Recently my fiance and I went to La Tavola Italiano on Mt. Washington - it does not look like much from the outside, but my goodness was the food fantastic! (And my FI does not enjoy italian food - this is a huge compliment from him!)

Anyways, Carmela and her husband have no formal training (other than learning from their families in Sicily) and all of the food in made-to-order. Sauces, etc. The pasta is homemade that day as well.

It is BYOB with a one-time $5 corkage fee and the food does take awhile, because of the made-to-order. But Carmela and the staff really were fantastic.

make a reservation for the weekend - it fills up fast and there is no bar area to wait at. Also, they cater parties and hold smaller special occasion parties like rehearsal dinners, weddings, First Communions, etc.
